During the creation of Happy Gilmore 2, Julie Bowen didn’t anticipate reprising her role in the follow-up film. This is because she felt that her age might make her an unlikely choice for the sequel, given her character’s relationship with Adam Sandler’s character in the original Happy Gilmore.
On the Inside of You podcast, Bowen expressed surprise, saying, “I never expected them to bring me back.” In reference to Happy Gilmore 2, he added humorously, “Surely they need a younger actress for that role.
In the movie “Happy Gilmore,” Bowen portrayed Virginia Venit, who was the PR chief for the PGA Tour. Initially skeptical about Happy, she ultimately developed feelings for the unique golfer.
Thirty years back, when she first tried out for the part, Bowen herself harbored doubts about getting the role due to not fitting the “sexy” image. However, surprisingly, they ended up offering her the role instead.
Bowen shared that they appeared relaxed after she read for the Happy Gilmore role. They seemed genuinely relieved, and when she asked why, they explained that some actresses were excessively sexual in their approach. She found it surprising when they questioned if this was a positive trait.
In the following part of the story, Virginia and Happy formed a family. Although Bowen had fewer scenes in the follow-up, he was labeled as “the soul of the film” by Sandler.

The cast of familiar faces doesn’t end there, as Christopher McDonald reprises his role as the infamous Shooter McGavin, and none other than Ben Stiller is set to appear as Hal L. in Happy Gilmore 2! This sequel promises to be just as entertaining as the original, and I can hardly wait to see what adventures lie ahead for us all.
Stars include Bad Bunny, Margaret Qualley, the Safdie brothers (Benny and Blake), Sadie and Sunny Sandler, as well as Travis Kelce and Eric André.
In another rendition, Kyle Newacheck is the director for Happy Gilmore 2, penned by Adam Sandler and Tim Herlihy. The quartet consisting of Sandler, Herlihy, Jack Giarraputo, and Robert Simonds will take on producing roles.
