Are you curious about when or why Heartland will no longer be available on Netflix? This popular Canadian drama has been a beloved series on the streaming platform for over ten years, but its stay with Netflix US is drawing to a close. With changes in licensing agreements, many are now questioning: When exactly will Heartland be taken off?
Here’s what we know about Heartland’s Netflix departure date and where you can keep watching.
Why is Heartland leaving Netflix and when?
Netflix is set to take down all 16 seasons of Heartland, consisting of 249 episodes, from its US library starting August 1, 2025. A notice on their website indicates that July 31 is your last chance to catch up before it’s removed. At this time, Netflix has not disclosed any plans to renew the licensing contract.
For quite some time now, Heartland has been a staple of Netflix’s US collection dating back to the early 2010s. Unfortunately, the rights to stream this program on Netflix are set to expire. In a recent chat with Netflix support, they clarified that titles may no longer be available due to licensing agreements. They further explained that whether a title is renewed or not depends on several factors such as: if the rights to the title still exist, how popular it is in a particular region, and the cost associated with re-licensing the content.
As a dedicated gamer, I was really looking forward to binge-watching seasons 17 and 18 of Heartland on Netflix US, but it seems like that’s not going to happen as planned. The CBC just renewed Heartland for a 19th season with fresh episodes, which might create an even bigger content gap if the licensing deal isn’t extended.
As a devoted fan, I’m excited to share that even outside the U.S., new seasons of Heartland continue to stream on Netflix. However, internationally, older seasons were taken off in 2022. But don’t worry, within the U.S., the show remains accessible across various platforms. For instance, Season 18 debuted on UP Faith & Family. Other options where you can catch Heartland include Hallmark+, Peacock, Prime Video, The CW, and The Roku Channel. Enjoy your Heartland viewing experience!
Even though it’s set to be taken off the air, Heartland remains a popular choice among viewers. As per Netflix Engagement Reports, the series garnered over 500 million viewing hours globally from 2023 to 2024, which translates to approximately 55 million views in total.
