In “Heads of State,” two improbable heroes, U.K. Prime Minister Sam Clarke (played by Idris Elba) and U.S. President Will Derringer (John Cena), are thrust into a perilous, high-stakes operation. Initially, their relationship is marked by mutual irritation, but they find themselves battling for survival after surviving an assassination attempt mid-flight. As the mission unfolds, they encounter betrayal, international intrigue, and a struggle to safeguard NATO’s future. By the end of the film, what becomes of Sam and Will? Here is a synopsis of the conclusion to “Heads of State.
Who plotted against Sam and Will in Heads of State?
The individuals seeking to bring Sam and Will undone aren’t mere adversaries; they are insiders with grand schemes at play. The primary antagonist is Viktor Gradov, a ruthless arms dealer nursing a deep grudge against NATO. In the past, NATO inadvertently took the life of his son during a raid, and subsequently attempted to conceal the incident and appropriate his son’s technology. This act of betrayal has been the driving force behind Gradov’s mission to dismantle NATO from within.
However, it’s clear that he isn’t acting independently. It appears that Will’s own Vice President, Elizabeth Kirk, is in cahoots with Gradov. Kirk, an isolationist at heart, aims to disengage the U.S. from international alliances. Her strategy involves allowing NATO to crumble and seizing power herself, leveraging the assassination of Sam and Will as a triggering event for this power grab.
Do Sam and Will live or die in the Heads of State ending?
Sam and Will live, but they almost don’t in the Heads of State ending.
At a NATO gathering, Gradov enters with substantial force and a strategy to eradicate global leaders. Rather than adopting a cautious approach, Sam and Will boldly rushed in. The climactic confrontation ensues, where Gradov is on the verge of fleeing by helicopter. Equipped with a harpoon gun, he comes close to slipping away until Sam resorts to a daring maneuver reminiscent of his past action-packed film roles.
In this scenario, Sam diverts Gradov’s attention as Will hurls a statue of Cupid towards the helicopter’s rotors. The strategy succeeds, causing the chopper to explode in mid-air, resulting in Gradov’s death. Regrettably, Kirk also perishes, having been slain by Gradov during their confrontation – a clear indication that he had never truly trusted her.
