Batman: James Gunn Talks DCU Costume, If Grey & Blue Suit Is Possible

James Gunn has commented on Batman’s possible DCU suit.

In December 2024, Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Universe (DCU) was officially debuted with the premiere of the animated Creature Commandos series. The first live-action movie from DCU, featuring Superman, is set to hit US cinemas within just under two weeks. Following this, Peacemaker Season 2 will air in August 2025, and Supergirl will make its appearance in June 2026.

Among DC Universe enthusiasts, there’s been much speculation about when Batman will formally become part of the DCU. Although a brief appearance was made by The Dark Knight in Creature Commandos, it didn’t involve any dialogue, and as of now, the actor portraying him hasn’t been selected yet.

Additionally, it’s yet unclear which live-action DC Universe project Batman will debut in initially, although it has been confirmed that a film adaptation of ‘The Brave and the Bold’ is under development.

What did James Gunn say about Batman’s DCU costume?

Speaking with CBR, Gunn said that there are “no decisions made about the costume at all yet.”

When inquired about his preference for the Dark Knight’s gray and blue attire in DC Comics, Gunn expressed enthusiasm, stating, “I enjoy it! Yet, I also appreciate other interpretations. I admire a variety of designs. Being a Batman enthusiast, I like all the distinct versions of the Batsuit…As for what we will do, I wasn’t aware of our plans. It was only during the final stages of this film that I found out about adding trunks [to Superman]. Honestly, I wanted to add trunks, but I wasn’t certain it would fit.
