American Squid Game By David Fincher In The Works

An American television series inspired by “Squid Game” is now being created, with renowned director David Fincher, known for his work on “Gone Girl” and “Mindhunter”, taking charge of the production.

David Fincher Expected To Direct The Pilot

It’s anticipated that Fincher will take charge of the pilot episode and could also serve as an executive producer. This potential partnership is just another instance of his continued collaborations with Netflix, where he has already delivered a number of notable productions.

Cate Blanchett’s Cameo Was A Clue

In the finale of Squid Game’s third season, Cate Blanchett unexpectedly made an appearance, portraying a ddakji player in Los Angeles, mirroring the initial recruitment scene from the original series. This final scene might have been more than just a brief cameo – it seems to have been strategically used to subtly introduce the American adaptation of the show. It appears that moment was not so much about creating surprise, but rather setting the stage for what’s coming next.

Production Could Begin By December

It’s said that the spin-off will commence filming in December 2025, primarily in Los Angeles. Given David Fincher’s current involvement in another Netflix production, this timing seems fitting. The script is being penned by Dennis Kelly, known for creating the series Utopia.

Not A Remake

In the American adaptation, we won’t rehash the initial narrative. Instead, it will broaden the storyline by introducing a fresh set of characters, a new environment, and novel games. Although it maintains the same central themes of economic hardship and survival, it is anticipated to portray a distinctly different societal and cultural backdrop.
