Jyotika has consistently stood out as one of the most prominent actresses by being an early adopter of working in movies across various languages. Following a prosperous career in Bollywood, she ventured into Southern cinema with equal success, delivering hits in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada films.
In my line of work, I’ve encountered instances where talent can be overlooked due to preconceived notions. For instance, there was a time in my career when opportunities seemed scarce for over two and a half decades, all because of an unfounded assumption.
When Jyotika recalled how Bollywood thought she became a South Indian
During an earlier conversation with News18, Jyotika reminisced about her bygone days and spoke of a period where she ceased to receive roles in Hindi movies for approximately 27 years.
In my expertise as a lifestyle guide, I’ve noticed that upon marrying the talented actor Suriya and establishing my home and career base in the vibrant city of Chennai, some people assumed this transition meant I had transformed into a South Indian actress, thereby losing interest in Hindi cinema. However, such assumptions couldn’t be further from the truth!
She mentioned that people within the Bollywood industry mistakenly believed she was of South Indian origin and assumed she no longer wished to act in Hindi films. Despite this, she remains grateful for the experience and the work she accomplished there. It’s not accurate to say she intentionally avoided Hindi films; rather, she simply didn’t receive any script offers for many years.
Jyotika spoke about her nostalgia in shooting Hindi films after years
Reflecting on my recent role in the captivating film “Srikanth” starring Rajkummar Rao, I must admit it brought a sense of nostalgia as I stepped back into the world of Hindi cinema after a long hiatus. This project, being my second since re-entering Bollywood, holds a special place in my heart and career.
Describing her emotion, she shared, “Speaking Hindi again brought back a flood of nostalgia as it’s been some time since I last used it. I was quite apprehensive for the first two days. On the first day, my acting was less than perfect (she chuckled). I couldn’t help but pinch myself, marveling at my return to Bollywood.
Jyotika’s work front
Indeed, Jyotika’s return to Hindi cinema has been characterized by several successful films and series such as Shaitaan, Dabba Cartel, Srikanth among others.
Moreover, she’s recently taken on the role of producer for several of her husband’s films, such as Retro, which was directed by Karthik Subbaraj.
