Justice League’s Cut Green Lantern Design for Zack Snyder Movie Revealed

The original design for the Green Lantern character, as planned for the Justice League movie within the DCEU, has been unveiled, eight years after the initial studio release hit theaters. Despite Zack Snyder’s involvement in the project up until his departure, and his 2021 release of the film in its entirety, this character did not make an appearance.

Justice League almost featured Tomar-Re Green Lantern

Jerad S. Marantz, who served as a concept artist on Zack Snyder’s Justice League production, recently posted on Instagram his design for Green Lantern Tomar-Re, originally intended for the movie but ultimately omitted from the final cut.

I love Tomar-Re, one of my top Green Lantern picks! It’s been a while since I thought about him. Recently, I had the opportunity to revise this character for Justice League,” Marantz posted as a caption.

In the end, the artist mentioned that the character was eliminated from the film, but luckily for fans, they got to see deceased Kilowog, another non-human Green Lantern, instead. Moreover, Marantz expressed that working with costume designer Michael Wilkinson was an “extraordinary journey.

He went on to say, ‘Working on Justice League was truly a pinnacle moment in my career. Not only did it give me the opportunity to delve into some of my all-time favorite DC Comics characters, but I also had the privilege of collaborating with some exceptionally talented artists from Los Angeles and the UK.’

In the DC Comics universe, Tomar-Re is a character who belongs to the Green Lantern Corps and hails from an avian alien race known as the Xudarians. This character was brought to life by writer John Broome and artist Gil Kane. Tomar-Re made his debut in comic books within the pages of Green Lantern (Volume 2), specifically in its sixth issue, which was published in 1961.

Tomar-Re, who was initially intended for a post-credit scene in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, ended up not being included in the final cut of the film. Instead, he made an appearance in the 2011 movie Green Lantern, starring Ryan Reynolds. In this film, Oscar-winning actor Geoffrey Rush provided Tomar-Re’s voice.
