Fans of Taylor Swift are once again discussing the long-standing disagreement she had with Tina Fey and Amy Poehler that started at the 2013 Golden Globes Awards. During their comedy act, they made fun of Swift’s love life, which led to a response from the singer where she expressed her displeasure about the punchline, claiming there is a specific corner in hell reserved for women who don’t support other women.
In a different Golden Globes event years after his “Cruel Summer” performance, the singer made up with Poehler. Yet, it’s still uncertain if Taylor Swift has mended fences with Tina Fey.
What happened to Taylor Swift and Tina Fey?
The conflict between Taylor Swift and Tina Fey started during the 2013 Golden Globe Awards when Fey made a joke about Swift’s relationship with Michael J. Fox’s son.
Fey suggested that she should take some personal time to discover herself, but this comment didn’t sit well with Swift, who later spoke about it in an interview with Vanity Fair. Regarding “mean girls” and the notorious incident, Swift stated, “There’s a specific spot in hell reserved for women who don’t support other women,” echoing the words of former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright.
She also addressed the comments she faced concerning her dating experiences: “It’s unfortunate when a woman expressing her emotions is instead labeled as overly attached, crazy, or desperate to make someone marry her and start a family – I believe this undermines what could otherwise be admired.
Later on, Poehler and Fey reacted to Swift’s comments. While Poehler expressed feeling sorry that Swift felt upset, Fey took a more laidback approach. She explained to Entertainment Tonight, “I didn’t expect that response. It was a humorous remark, meant to be lighthearted. It’s unfortunate that she didn’t see it as the playful jest it was intended to be” (as reported by THR).
As a fellow gamer, I’d put it like this: “Aww, I’d hate for her to be upset. She’s a budding talent, and I stand with feminism. However, I admit there might be some truth to the rumor about me heading to the digital afterlife. But don’t worry, it’s not because of any gender-related issues; it’s more about sorting out my tax issues… you know, the usual boring stuff.
A year after that, during the 2014 Golden Globe Awards, Fey brought up the comment once more when Poehler was awarded Best Actress in a TV Comedy. Jokingly, she said, “I adore you, and there’s a specific spot reserved for you in hell!” In 2020, it seems that Poehler and Swift patched things up at the Golden Globes.
