Actress Jennifer Aniston, known for her roles in Friends and The Morning Show, is set to appear in a new Apple TV+ series that takes inspiration from the memoir “I’m Glad My Mom Died,” penned by Jennette McCurdy.
The massive streaming platform has commissioned a 10-episode run for the series, with Aniston portraying McCurdy’s demanding mother character. McCurdy gained fame for her role as Sam Puckett in Nickelodeon’s popular teen sitcom iCarly and its subsequent series Sam & Cat, where she starred alongside Ariana Grande, who played Cat Valentine from Victorious.
What is I’m Glad My Mom Died about?
In 2022, McCurdy released her autobiography titled “I’m Glad My Mom Died” through Simon & Shuster. This book narrates her journey as a child actress, her career, and the psychologically abusive relationship she had with her mother who passed away in 2013. The memoir delves into her battles with substance abuse and eating disorders as well.
According to Variety’s report, the Apple TV+ series will portray Jennette McCurdy’s emotional and humorous journey as a former child actor, navigating challenges under the watch of her controlling, demanding mother, played by Aniston. The series will primarily focus on the complex, codependent relationship between an 18-year-old actress from a popular children’s show and her self-absorbed mother who thrives on being known as ‘the mother of a starlet.’
Jennifer Aniston’s upcoming project on the streaming service, titled “I’m Glad My Mom Died,” follows her critically acclaimed series “The Morning Show,” which is set to release its fourth season this year. The writing, executive producing, and showrunning duties for the new show are handled by Danielle Henderson (McCurdy) and Ramy Youssef’s Ari Katcher, while Aniston will also serve as one of the executive producers.
