In a recent conversation, James Gunn – who shares leadership with DC Universe – discussed speculations about a well-known actor from Andor possibly taking on the part of Wonder Woman/Diana Prince. Previously, Gal Gadot played this character in the DC Extended Universe, but there have been whispers that she won’t return to the role within the DCU.
James Gunn on whether Adria Arjona could be Wonder Woman in DCU
Gunn recently chatted with ExtraTV and talked about rumors suggesting Adria Arjona might play Wonder Woman in the DCU. During the conversation, the interviewer playfully asked if fans should take seriously the possibility of an actress becoming Wonder Woman if Gunn follows them on social media. Gunn replied jokingly that it’s half true (50%), but quickly clarified there was no truth to it by saying “no.
The director of Superman later commented on the speculation about Arjona’s casting as Wonder Woman and used it in an illustration. He stated, “I follow Adria on Instagram, but people jumped to conclusions saying, ‘He followed her, so she must be Wonder Woman.’ She would make a fantastic Wonder Woman, by the way.
Gunn went on to make it clear that he had been acquainted with Arjona for quite some time. As he put it, “She was part of a film I directed around seven years back,” and elaborated, “Our friendship dates back to that period. I’ve kept tabs on her ever since, not just recently.
In the conversation, Gunn mentioned the film he was referring to was “The Belko Experiment”, a 2016 action-horror production. Gunn not only wrote the script for this movie but also produced it alongside Peter Safran, who is currently part of the DCU management team. Greg McLean served as the director for the film. In the movie, Arjona portrayed Leandra, the leading love interest character.
As I write this piece, DCU is working on two projects connected to the storyline of Wonder Woman from DC Comics. One of them is “Paradise Lost,” which is said to be an HBO Max or Max TV series, taking place on Themyscira Island before Diana’s birth. The other project is simply referred to as the upcoming DCU Wonder Woman film. At present, neither of these projects has a confirmed release date.
