Crazy Rich Asians Series Release Date Gets Exciting Update From Henry Golding

Henry Golding, the star of “Crazy Rich Asians”, has shared some exciting news regarding the highly anticipated TV series stemming from the 2018 hit film. In a recent chat, Golding dished on the project’s current progress, hinted at a possible production schedule, and spilled the beans about the existing scripts for the HBO Max version adaptation.

Henry Golding on the status of Crazy Rich Asians series

Henry Golding has shared that a Crazy Rich Asians TV show is under active development. In an interview on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, he mentioned, “Something’s being cooked up. It looks like we might be moving forward with a series. They’re hoping to get it started as early as the first quarter of next year.

This is the initial indication from an original actor about participating in the venture. Golding also disclosed that drafts for the series have been produced, though he has not received them as of yet. “Scripts are floating around, but they haven’t been given to me yet. I haven’t read anything, but I’ve heard it could be promising,” he expressed.

The show is under production at HBO Max, with Adele Lim, a co-writer from the original film, reportedly taking on the role of showrunner. After leaving the sequel due to pay disparity issues, Adele has penned Raya and the Last Dragon and directed Joy Ride. Jon M. Chu, who previously directed the 2018 film and recently concluded Wicked, is also coming back as executive producer.

The initial public timeline suggests that the project might start shooting as early as the beginning of 2026. If this is accurate and production proceeds smoothly, we could see the series debut by the end of 2026 or even in 2027. However, if Golding’s comment about “the first quarter next year” refers to filming during the second half of 2025, it’s still possible that the series will premiere in 2026.

The first movie adaptation of Kevin Kwan’s novel, “Crazy Rich Asians,” hit theaters in 2018. While sequels based on “China Rich Girlfriend” and “Rich People Problems” were announced, no further film productions have been initiated as yet. It remains undecided if actors like Michelle Yeoh, Constance Wu, or Awkwafina will reprise their roles in the potential series.
