GKIDS has revealed that the highly-anticipated 4K and Blu-ray release of the 2006 time travel adventure anime movie, “The Girl Who Leapt Through Time,” is set for distribution. This masterpiece was created by renowned filmmaker Mamoru Hosoda and boasts a commendable 90% score on Popcornmeter according to Rotten Tomatoes.
As a fan, I’d put it this way: “I follow the story of a typical teenager named Makoto who often hangs out with friends and wastes away her days. One fateful day, in a rush to meet my aunt, I almost get run over by a train, but at the last moment, I somehow leap back through time to dodge the disaster. This strange new power allows me to correct any small setbacks, from flunking exams to botching love confessions. But when I start meddling with time, I uncover a dark future that can’t be undone, and now I must navigate through every challenge to prevent this catastrophic destiny.
When is The Girl Who Leapt Through Time 4K and Blu-ray release date?
Starting from September 9, 2025, Hosoda’s The Girl Who Leapt Through Time can be purchased on Blu-ray for the first time ever. In addition to this, the anime movie will also make its debut in 4K UHD. This special edition will be available as a Limited Edition Steelbook, which can only be found on Amazon.

In 2006, the anime movie was helmed by Hosoda from a script penned by Satoko Okudera. This film was considered a loosely connected sequel to Yasutaka Tsutsui’s 1967 novel with the same title. Hosoda is renowned for his notable contributions to the animated feature Mirai, which earned an Oscar nomination. The voice actors for this production were Riisa Naka, Takuya Ishida, Mitsutaka Itakura, Ayama Kakiuchi, Mitsuki Tanimura, Yuki Sekido, Keiko Yamamoto, Yōji Matsuda, and Sachie Hara.
