Supergirl: James Gunn Reveals New Details About DCU Movie

James Gunn has shared insights on the forthcoming Supergirl film, disclosing that her persona is rather chaotic in contrast to her Superman equivalent.

What is the latest Supergirl update?

In conversation with Comic Book, Gunn discussed the primary distinctions between Superman and Kara Zor-El, particularly focusing on their upbringing and its impact on their characters.

Gunn believes that flashbacks of Krypton could be crucial for understanding the two characters and their contrasting backgrounds, with Clark having a particularly idyllic childhood. Unlike Supergirl, who has had a troubled upbringing due to witnessing numerous deaths and her home planet’s destruction.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is reportedly inspired by Tom King’s comic book series from 2021 to 2022, which was beautifully illustrated by Bilquis Evely. The movie features Milly Alcock as the main character, Kara Zor-El, and is penned by Ana Nogueira and produced by James Gunn and Peter Safran of DC Studios.

In 2023, Gunn described the contrast between Superman and Supergirl for this project: “While Superman was nurtured by loving parents on Earth since his infancy, Supergirl was shaped on a planet, a Kryptonian prodigy who witnessed tragic deaths for the first fourteen years of her life before arriving on Earth as a young girl.” Gunn added that Supergirl is not like the traditional Supergirl we’re accustomed to; she’s much tougher.

The movie “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” is set to be adapted from Tom King’s comic book series published between 2021 and 2022, with art by Bilquis Evely. As of now, a director for this upcoming project has yet to be announced.
