Steven Spielberg Reveals What Movie Genre He Still Wants to Make

At a gathering hosted by Universal Pictures celebrating Steven Spielberg, the esteemed Oscar-winning director revealed the type of film genre he plans to create next. Spielberg is most famed for his contributions to science fiction action films, including Close Encounters of the Third Kind, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, War of the Worlds, Ready Player One, and the Jurassic Park series.

What’s next for Steven Spielberg?

Lately, Steven Spielberg shared his aspiration to helm a Western film. Although he hasn’t taken on directing one yet, it’s worth noting that back in 2005, he did oversee the production of a miniseries called “Into the West” which falls under the Western genre. Nonetheless, some enthusiasts might debate whether or not Spielberg’s Indiana Jones series, with its action-adventure elements and Western influences, should be included in this category.

Spielberg shared that he’s yet to satisfy his craving for directing a Western movie, which he hopes to accomplish one day. He’s been yearning for this project for many years now.

The acclaimed filmmaker behind numerous awards has recently completed work on his science fiction production, which goes by an unnamed UFO title. Directed by Steven Spielberg from a script penned by David Koepp, who also wrote Jurassic Park, the story was originally conceptualized by the Oscar-winning director himself. The star-studded cast includes Emily Blunt (Oppenheimer), Wyatt Russell (Thunderbolts*), Josh O’Connor (The Crown), Colman Domingo (Rustin), Colin Firth (The King’s Speech), Eve Hewson (The Perfect Couple), and Noah Robbins (Fly Me to the Moon). Spielberg and Kristie Macosko Krieger produce for Amblin Entertainment, with Chris Brigham also involved.

As a devoted admirer, I’m excited to share that my next directorial venture will be following the release of “The Fabelmans,” a film inspired by Spielberg’s formative years in 2022. Apart from directing, this cinematic genius is also producing several exciting upcoming projects. Among them are Universal Pictures’ “Jurassic World Rebirth” featuring Scarlett Johansson, Netflix’s “The Thursday Murder Club” with Pierce Brosnan, and Apple TV+’s “Cape Fear” series starring Amy Adams. Can’t wait to see these masterpieces unfold!
