Dave Bautista will finally get his chance to star in a rom-com.
Up to now, Bautista’s acting career has mostly been focused on action and adventure films. He is recognized for portraying Drax the Destructor in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy series, as well as various other roles.
In January 2023, Bautista shared with Page Six that he harbors a desire to act in a romantic comedy film someday, though as of now, no such opportunity has come his way.
At one point, he admitted, “I’m not your typical romantic-comedy hero. I’ve got some rough spots. But when I look in the mirror, I wonder, am I really that unattractive? Is there something about me that makes me unsuitable for these roles?
After that statement, he’s maintained that he’s been involved in several romantic comedy projects, but there were no formal announcements regarding any of them until now. However, his wish has finally come true as he’s officially been selected for The Romantic, a new romantic comedy film produced by Paramount Pictures.

By the Due Date: “The movie revolves around bestselling romance author Francine London, who holds a secret – she’s actually a towering six-foot-four man named Ed Schwenke. When Ed’s true identity is questioned, he enlists an unpredictable woman to stand in for Francine at a romance fiction event, all while avoiding a skeptical female journalist, who despises romance and liars with equal fervor.
Currently, there’s no director involved with the production. The screenplay was penned by Deborah Kaplan and Harry Elfont, while Maximum Effort and Bautista’s Dogbone Entertainment are responsible for bringing this project to life.
The exact date when “The Romantic” will be released hasn’t been announced yet. Bautista was last in Paul W. S. Anderson’s “In the Lost Lands,” and he’ll soon appear in “Trap House,” directed by Michael Dowse, which is set to premiere in U.S. theaters on November 14, 2025.
