Days of Thunder 2: Tom Cruise Sequel Could Crossover With Brad Pitt’s F1

There’s growing excitement about the potential sequel to “Days of Thunder 2“, and director Joseph Kosinski has proposed a concept that might blend Tom Cruise’s racing film with the forthcoming Formula One (F1) races.

What did Joseph Kosinski say about Days of Thunder 2?

In an interview with GQ, when asked about making a movie featuring both Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise, if given the opportunity, director Kosinski envisioned a fusion film combining elements from Formula One (F1) and Days of Thunder.

Kosinski mentioned that if we were discussing the characters now, it would be Cole Trickle from Days of Thunder, played by Cruise. He hinted at a past between Cole and Sonny Hayes; they were likely rivals or had crossed paths. It’s been rumored that there was an intense go-kart race between these two during Brad Pitt’s Interview with a Vampire, and it’s intriguing to imagine them competing against each other on the racetrack.

In November 2024, it emerged that Tom Cruise could be collaborating with Paramount on a potential Days of Thunder 2 sequel, but as of yet, an official confirmation has not been made public. By May 2025, the project was still under discussion.

Speaking recently, longtime acquaintance and NASCAR driver Jeff Gordon confirmed that a follow-up is indeed underway for the project he’s been connected with, Cruise.

In the high-speed environment of NASCAR racing, a fierce rivalry ignites between newcomer prodigy Cole Trickle (portrayed by Cruise) and seasoned racer Rowdy Burns (Rooker). After both suffer severe injuries during races, their initial animosity transforms into a deep friendship. As Cole recovers emotionally through a relationship with neurosurgeon Dr. Claire Lewicki (Kidman), and Rowdy remains sideline due to his injuries, Cole decides to compete in the Daytona 500 using Rowdy’s car, challenging unscrupulous newcomer Russ Wheeler (Elwes).
