In James Gunn’s forthcoming movie, there’s a fresh take on Superman suggesting that Kal-El may have been dispatched with the intention of subjugating Earth, much like Omni-Man in Invincible. Superman, starring David Corenswet as the lead character, is set to hit theaters in July 2025. Alongside him, Rachel Brosnahan portrays Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult steps into the role of Lex Luthor, and Nathan Fillion is cast as Guy Gardner.
Superman theory suggests why Kal-El was really sent to Earth
According to a X (formerly Twitter) user, Kal-El’s backstory in the 2025 movie might be different.
A recent video posting by @bluerayangel implies that Superman’s origin story could share some resemblances with Omni-Man’s from Invincible. In the Amazon Prime Video show, it’s revealed that Omni-Man was dispatched to Earth with a mission to undermine Earth’s defenses by the Viltrumites.
In the video, the user pointed out an intriguing idea: “James Gunn’s portrayal of Superman appears to grapple with his dual identities as both a Kryptonian and a human raised by the Kent family.
The user went on to say, “In the trailer, a character appears to express doubts about his true identity. Later, Pa Kent advises him that his actions and decisions define who he is. Now, imagine if in this portrayal of Superman, Jor-El sent him to Earth with the intention of conquering it.

Additionally, the spectator proposed an idea that the film might delve into Lex Luthor significantly influencing Superman’s past.
In another statement, the user proposed a scenario: “Perhaps the narrative follows the Superman Birthright comic series, in which Lex Luthor acquires the Fortress of Solitude and manipulates it. He might even control what Jor-El communicates to Superman. This could be the source of his belief that Superman was dispatched by Kryptonians to dominate, and that the Kryptonians themselves are malevolent. The central theme of this Superman, according to this story, is to demonstrate that people aren’t inherently evil.
As a gaming enthusiast, I’m always excited about new takes on classic characters like Superman. The original tale tells us that Kal-El was rocketed to Earth by his father Jor-El, following the destruction of their home planet, Krypton. But whether the origin story will change in the upcoming movie remains a tantalizing enigma, as directors James Gunn and David Corenswet have kept mum on this topic during interviews so far.
