As the saying goes, two minds can be better than one. However, there are exceptions to every rule, like when one of those minds belongs to your grandmother who can’t see and the other is giving instructions from the back seat – welcome to Rear-Seat Navigators.
A Driving Game For People Who Shouldn’t Be Driving (Or Friends)
In this scenario, you and your companion, whether it’s a friend or grandma, find yourselves in a car that seems more like a patchwork than a well-constructed vehicle, held together by duct tape, resentment, and perhaps some remnants of bubblegum. One of you takes the driver’s seat, our brave Gramma, who unfortunately can’t see much beyond the dashboard. The other person, portrayed as the anxious grandchild, is relegated to the back seat with a clear view of the road but no power over the vehicle’s movements. With such a precarious setup, it seems inevitable that something unexpected and potentially frightening will unfold.
In this scenario, your role as the backseat passenger involves providing Gramma with concise, calm, and unambiguous directions. However, instead of offering helpful advice, you might inadvertently give misleading instructions, such as shouting “LEFT!” repeatedly while she navigates through potentially dangerous situations like a lake, mountain, or military checkpoint. The choice of destination is flexible, after all!
Your long and perilous journey across the country involves typical diversions such as freezing mountain ranges, caving-in subway passages, roadways as sturdy as a dry spaghetti stick, not forgetting the obligatory secret government research facility, which most likely didn’t grant permission for your vehicle to pass by. By the way, did I mention that your car is in dire need of repair during this trip?
Your cross-country trek comes with all the usual detours like snowy mountains, collapsing subway tunnels, weak highways, and a hidden government lab. Oh, and your car needs fixing along the way too!
Through every step of the way, Backseat Drivers keeps a deep emotional foundation: specifically, the collective psychological scarring of two individuals who have come to know each other all too intimately – and carry just enough animosity to keep things intriguing. Be it forging deeper bonds, tearing them apart entirely, or simply yelling at someone dear while hurtling backward off a precipice in a flaming automobile, Backseat Drivers will take you on the journey. Albeit, not without a delay.
