The popular multiplayer football game Rematch developed by Sifu’s creators, Sloclap, was launched to millions of players. However, the initial release didn’t go as smoothly as hoped. Apart from crossplay being absent at launch, Sloclap acknowledged that they made some mistakes in areas like performance, network coding (netcode), and a few other aspects.
In an interview with VideoGamer, Sloclap stated that enabling crossplay in their popular multiplayer game is currently their “primary focus” now that player numbers have surpassed 3 million. Moreover, they are diligently working on various enhancements and fresh features set to roll out for the game in the near future.
Rematch crossplay is a “top priority”
According to Pierre Tarno, creative director of Rematch, the team had hoped to have the crossplay feature available at the game’s launch. However, as their inaugural cross-platform title, they encountered unexpected problems during implementation which needed addressing.
Tarno clarified, “Indeed, that’s an aspect we were aiming to introduce at the start, but encountered some unforeseen challenges. Given that it’s our debut cross-platform game, we found it required more time than expected for technical alignment and production.
At our studio, there’s an existing form of crossplay, but it’s not perfect yet and requires further development. Rest assured, once this feature is fully prepared, we’ll make sure to inform the fans promptly.
The creative director clarified that this project is our highest concern. We’ve already developed a functional prototype from a technical perspective, but now we must add the necessary user interfaces. After that, we’ll fix any issues, give it a final touch-up, and ultimately pass console certification tests successfully.
Our goal is to allow gamers to play together regardless of the platform they use. We’re putting in a lot of effort to launch cross-platform gameplay as quickly as we can. As soon as we have a definite timetable, we’ll be sure to share it with you.
A tonne of features are in the works
In addition to unveiling crossplay and enhanced network code across all regions, Sloclap has hinted at numerous enhancements for the overall game. As reported by VideoGamer, the team is brimming with innovative elements they’re eager to introduce in the game.
They shared that our primary goal is to continuously enhance and refine the details of our game system, aiming to make it as engaging as possible within a competitive setting. To achieve this, we’ll set up test servers where we can trial new features and updates in real-time. This way, we can gather feedback from our community before implementing these changes on the main game.
Tarno wrapped up by sharing that the team is diligently developing fresh features, catering to both competitive and leisurely gamers, which includes AI-powered opponents (bots) as training tools, prior to diving into multiplayer matches.
