Ironheart’s Dominique Thorne on Riri’s Hand in [Spoiler]’s Death

As a dedicated gamer, I’ve been deeply immersed in the captivating world of Ironheart since its premiere on June 24, 2025, exclusively on Disney+. Recently, during an engaging interview, the talented actress who brings Riri Williams to life, Dominique Thorne, shared her thoughts on a heart-wrenching moment in Episode 3 where Riri makes a difficult decision that results in the tragic demise of a crucial supporting character. This revelation has left many viewers, including myself, reflecting on the emotional weight of these events within the series.

Dominique Thorne on Riri leaving John to die in Ironheart Episode 3

In a recent chat with Entertainment Weekly, actress Dominique Thorne discussed Riri’s decision to abandon Manny Montana’s character, John, in Ironheart Episode 3. It’s revealed that Riri took a magical cloak piece belonging to Anthony Ramos’ Parker Robbins / The Hood, and John confronted her about it during the Heirlum facility heist. A battle between them erupted in the greenhouse, leading to Riri choosing to leave John, who tragically succumbed to asphyxiation. Later, she verified his demise using her armor by performing a heat scan.

The actor from Freaky Tales shared with the media that Episode 3 is undeniably her preferred installment, as it showcased her character reaching a significant point. She elaborated, “The way she deals with it, the sense of pride she takes in it, is notable. However, I believe the fact that she intentionally chose this path speaks volumes about her character and some of the internal struggles she’s grappling with.

In 2022’s “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” is where we first saw Thorne in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. During this film, Riri observed Letitia Wright’s character Shuri grapple with grief and a thirst for vengeance. The actor shares that this encounter left a profound impression on Riri as she was able to witness “what a true leader and hero truly looks like.

In a different turn of events from Shuri’s path, Riri’s self-centered decisions suggest a distinct course for Ironheart. As Thorne explained, “Riri is ready to prioritize herself over another person’s life, which hints at something significant.” She continued, “This choice adds to the tension and opens up a wide array of possibilities for what Ironheart could become and the potential price of her aspirations.

The remaining three episodes of Ironheart will come out on July 1, 2025.
