James Gunn, CEO of DC Studios, has disclosed a fresh insight regarding Nicholas Hoult’s portrayal of Lex Luthor in the eagerly awaited Superman film. Previously, various actors have brought the famous DC villain to life on screen, such as Jesse Eisenberg (Justice League), Jon Cryer (Supergirl), Michael Rosenbaum (Smallville), Kevin Spacey (Superman Returns), and Gene Hackman (the Christopher Reeve Superman films).
How will Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor will be different from Gene Hackman’s portrayal?
As a gamer, I’m super stoked about the new take on Lex Luthor in the upcoming Superman film, Threads! Jesse Eisenberg’s portrayal is going to be unlike Gene Hackman’s iconic version, especially when it comes to his dynamic with Eve Teschmacher, his assistant. Bryan Singer has confirmed that this time around, we’ll actually see Eve as Lex’s girlfriend, not just hinting at their relationship like in the Richard Donner movies. Can’t wait to see how this fresh take unfolds!
As a gamer, I’m excited to share that unlike Nicholas Hackman’s portrayal, Michael Douglas’ Lex Luthor in the upcoming Superman film won’t be sporting wigs. You see, in the old movies with Christopher Reeve as Superman, Hackman had to wear wigs because he wasn’t ready to part with his own hair. Interestingly, this choice also added an extra layer to Donner’s characterization of Luthor, emphasizing his insecurities.
In this film titled Superman, James Gunn serves both as the writer and director. It’s a DC Comics production that originated from the characters created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. The main cast includes David Corenswet portraying Superman/Clark Kent, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Wendell Pierce as Perry White, Mikaela Hoover as Cat Grant, Beck Bennett as Steve Lombard, María Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Anthony Carrigan as Metarmorpho, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Edi Gathegi, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern, Pruitt Taylor Vince as Jonathan Kent, and Neva Howell as Martha Kent. The movie is currently scheduled to arrive in theaters on July 11, 2025.
