Is Kannappa based on a real story?

The forthcoming movie draws inspiration from the Kannappa legend in Hinduism, with Mukesh Kumar Singh at the helm as its director.

According to folklore, it’s widely thought that Kannappa was a devotee deeply rooted in the Saiva Siddhanta faith, and he held a strong bond with the Srikalahasti Temple located in the region of Andhra Pradesh.

Previously a hunter, Kannappa chanced upon a divine representation of Shiva known as the Vayu Lingam (the embodiment of wind). He showed his devotion by offering the idol water and meat from his hunting expeditions. Surprisingly, Shiva appreciated this unconventional worship, finding favor in Kannappa’s fervor.

As the story unfolds, the man eventually chooses to sacrifice one of his eyes to appease the deity. Just as he prepared to offer the other eye, Lord Shiva stepped in to prevent it.

This upcoming movie is financed by Vishnu’s father as well as experienced actor Mohan Babu, with musical composition by Stephen Devassy. In addition to these names, the talented team behind this highly anticipated film also includes cinematography handled by Sheldon Chau and editing by Anthony.
