James Gunn is denying a recent report regarding the script for The Batman 2.
In March of 2022, the movie “Batman” was launched, a production by DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures. This film is helmed by Matt Reeves, with Robert Pattinson portraying Bruce Wayne, Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Paul Dano playing Edward Nashton/The Riddler, among others.
As a gaming enthusiast, I can’t help but get excited about the upcoming sequel that’s tentatively scheduled for release in October 2027. There’s been plenty of buzz lately about when the movie’s script will finally be finalized.
What is the latest update on The Batman 2?
Earlier this week, it was announced that Reeves would submit his script for The Batman 2 to Warner Bros. and DC on Monday, June 23, 2025. However, Gunn clarified on Threads this morning that the report was inaccurate, implying that the script will not be delivered today.
Fear not, enthusiasts of The Batman, for according to Gunn’s statements to Entertainment Weekly last week, the expectation is that he will receive the script for The Batman 2 by June.
Gunn expressed optimism regarding the situation, stating, “We’re feeling quite positive about it. Matt’s really enthusiastic too. We chat frequently and we both share the same excitement. We can hardly wait to see the scripts, though we haven’t had a chance to look at them yet. If you’re wondering, that’s the situation. People should give Matt some space to write his screenplay at his own pace. After all, he doesn’t owe us anything just because we enjoy his films. We appreciate his movies because of Matt himself.
At the moment, specific plot details for The Batman 2 have yet to be revealed. As of now, the film is scheduled for a release on October 1st, 2027. On the other hand, if you’re interested in watching The Batman and The Penguin, both shows are currently streaming on Max.
