The Brave and the Bold will be first to introduce Batman in DCU
In a recent conversation on social media, the director of Guardians of the Galaxy confirmed that Batman is set to first appear in the DC Universe through The Brave and the Bold.
James Gunn recently used Twitter to announce his upcoming appearance on the DC Studios Showcase Podcast, during which he talked about the upcoming Superman movie and his future strategies for the DC Universe. A user on this tweet asked him if it was still the intention for The Brave and the Bold (Batman) to serve as the live-action introduction to the Batman character in the DCU.
Directly answering your question, DC Studios’ co-CEO simply said “Yes” when asked about James Gunn’s confirmation of a DC Universe project featuring Bruce Wayne. However, this doesn’t mean Batman will make an appearance in any movie before The Brave and the Bold. This also implies that Batman may not show up in the Clayface film led by Tom Rhys, even though he is usually an adversary for Gotham’s Guardian.
James Gunn has not disclosed any specifics about the release schedule for The Brave and the Bold, but he did mention in a recent conversation that “Batman is my top concern when it comes to all DC characters at the moment on a personal level.” He’s currently collaborating with the writer of Batman to ensure they get it right because Batman holds significant importance for DC, just as Wonder Woman does. Therefore, aside from the ongoing projects, their primary focus is completing the scripts for both Wonder Woman and Batman.
In the meantime, DCU’s first entry, Superman, comes out on the big screens on July 11, 2025.
