The narrative of “Prince and Family” revolves around Prince Chakkalakkal, the eldest family member who runs a quaint store. Despite being an introvert, he hails from a humble rural village in Kerala and is known as the town’s most eligible bachelor. However, his search for his soulmate – ‘The One’ – remains unsuccessful.
In the movie, we follow a character’s journey as he navigates between his personal joy and familial obligations, with the narrative primarily delving into his search for love.
The Good
Among recent disappointments starring Dileep, Prince and Family stands out as a more appealing film. It combines elements of everyday life drama with humor and suspense, following a common script for such productions.
The movie effectively maintains a delicate blend of comedy and disorder throughout, largely staying on course for much of its duration.
In terms of acting, performers such as Dileep, Siddique, Bindu Panicker, and Dhyan Sreenivasan maintain their appeal; however, their performances can sometimes be undermined due to weak scriptwriting.
Technically speaking, the movie doesn’t quite capture a fresh, appealing tone, yet the music by Sanal Dev deserves praise for its catchy tunes and beautiful compositions.
The film’s overall feel isn’t very engaging, but the songs composed by Sanal Dev are worth appreciating because they sound really nice.
The Bad
The film titled “Prince and Family” can be more accurately described as a cinematic project primarily intended for financial gain, rather than artistic merit. Starring Dileep in his 150th movie since his debut, it capitalizes on the actor’s emotional connection with the audience.
The title card aims to refresh viewers’ memory about the actor and underscore his significance in Malayalam film industry. However, it may seem repetitive or over-emphasized for some, as the actor is already deeply ingrained within the hearts of Malayali cinema enthusiasts.
As a die-hard fan, I must admit that while the movie does serve up a heaping dose of nostalgia, it falls short in its efforts to weave together a comedy-drama masterpiece through its scripting. It seems like an attempt to tug at our heartstrings connected to the actor, but unfortunately, it doesn’t quite hit the mark.
Although featuring renowned writer Sharis Mohammed, known for “Jana Gana Mana,” might generate excitement, it’s essential to remember that the actors portraying the characters are neither Prithviraj Sukumaran nor Suraj Venjaramoodu.
The poor delivery of dialogues by the characters may leave the audience feeling so trapped that they find it hard to endure, often resulting in a heavy sigh.
The storyline of Prince and His Family seems somewhat awkward due to the overly positive portrayal of the lead character, which doesn’t align well with his real-life persona. One of the scenes between Prince and his friend appears more like a covert public relations tactic rather than genuine interaction for the actor.
As a devoted supporter, I’d say it feels like the portrayal of the character and the film itself serves as a refresher course for spectators about the persona of Dileep that has been predominant over the last few years.
The Performances
Regarding the portrayals given by Dileep, he effectively takes on substantial roles. Yet, at times, it seems as if the actor momentarily loses the captivating aura that once made him renowned.
As a die-hard fan, I must admit that while some performances faltered, Dhyan and Siddique held their ground quite impressively. However, it was none other than Bindu Panicker who stole the show for me with her side-splitting humor!
