In a different way of saying it: Tina Fey, along with others, developed the Netflix show “The Four Seasons,” which is inspired by the 1981 film featuring six friends who take vacations together four times per year. But things shift dramatically when one of the married couples in the group splits up. As the series has been renewed for a second season on Netflix, Tina Fey discusses what we might see next and whether Steve Carell will reappear.
As Tina Fey shared with Deadline, we can expect season two of our show to progress smoothly, with the entire crew from the first season returning. One unique aspect of The Four Seasons was devoting two episodes in a row during each season to a single vacation. If this trend continues in season two, the star and co-creator has hinted at keeping that format real.
Fey commented on one aspect they enjoy about it: the “container plate” or setting of the game. She mentioned that they rarely get to play it except during vacations, but not necessarily luxurious ones. The writers explained that some people might question taking four vacations a year, to which Fey replied that these could include visiting friends, college visits, traditional vacations, and perhaps a local ski trip (if she’s not aware if people go skiing more than once a year). However, they want to maintain the format of seeing them only when they are all together, and on four specific occasions.
Will Steve Carell be returning?
In the finale of The Four Seasons’ first season, Steve Carell’s character, Nick, met an unfortunate end in a car crash. Following the funeral service, it was revealed that Nick had left behind a pregnant girlfriend, Ginny. During the show’s renewal announcement, Tina Fey shared some light-hearted banter about a humorous group text conversation among the cast members.
We shared an amusing group text message. When we were selected for Season 2, everyone cheered and congratulated each other with various exclamations. Just five minutes later, Steve simply typed, ‘I’ve had it.’
Will there be scenes showing Nick from past events, since he passed away at the end of season one? This is how Tina Fey responded:
(Note: I used “past events” instead of “flashbacks” to make it more natural and easier to understand for a wider audience.)
It’s not something I can confirm. Our team operates under a specific structure. To put it another way, among all the errors I’ve committed during my professional journey, I hope this one – if it were to happen – would be seen as the most significant.
Make sure to watch season one of The Four Seasons streaming on Netflix.
