21-year-old Vivian Jenna Wilson, Elon Musk’s transgender daughter, appeared on stage adorned in drag, waving a Transgender Pride flag and advocating fiercely for immigrants’ rights in Los Angeles. This event took place last Thursday night, and she successfully raised a significant amount of money for this cause.
Only a few days ago, Wilson shared her dreams about performing drag during a chat on the Wine About It podcast. Specifically, she mentioned:
“I adore drag. I really wanna do that. The problem is, I’m really bad at makeup”,
she added with a laugh. Luckily, a professional makeup artist helped transform her for the night.
Following the event, she expressed gratitude to the hosts and shared that the encounter was “transformative” on Instagram.

A Performance With Purpose
Wilson made their drag debut during the “SAVE HER,” an environmental and politically-themed drag show, which was organized by renowned queer activist and drag artist Pattie Gonia on June 14 at The Bellwether in Los Angeles. This venue is situated close to areas where there have been recent protests against aggressive immigration raids in predominantly Latino communities.
With a sleek black jumpsuit on, Wilson confidently walked the runway, illuminated by lights displaying the messages “Fk ICE” and “No One Is Illegally Present on Stolen Territory.
The performance-filled event, characterized as a passionate plea for unity and defiance, showcased talents such as Sequoia, Vera!, Jacob Ostler, and Trudy Tective.
“Get ICE the f*** out of Los Angeles. Them, alongside the National Guard, coming here to disrupt our city… to rip people from their homes and lives is a disgrace”,
Wilson wrote on BlueSky ahead of the show.
Wilson, who has had a strained relationship with her father, Musk, and isn’t shy about voicing her criticisms towards him, decided to utilize this occasion to advocate for immigrant legal defense organizations.
As reported by the event organizers, all earnings from the performance are earmarked for financing legal representation to safeguard immigrants threatened with deportation and ICE operations in California.
The Political Storm Behind the Performance
Wilson’s striking presence finds her at a significant crossroads where several heated political issues converge: transgender rights, drag performances, and immigration equality – issues that are currently experiencing intense scrutiny.
Her comments arrive during an increasingly strict immigration policy enforcement, spearheaded by President Donald Trump, who recently dispatched 2,000 National Guard personnel and 700 Marines to Los Angeles this month.
Over the past few weeks, I’ve found myself deeply disturbed as I witnessed a series of actions that bypassed California Governor Gavin Newsom. These actions were followed by reports and videos of masked Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents detaining individuals, even U.S. citizens, during raids at community events and swap meets. It’s disheartening to see such events unfold in our communities.
The aggressive tactics sparked daily protests and international outcry.
Cultural Resistance On The Rise
Wilson’s performance isn’t the only form of cultural resistance rising in LA and beyond.
At Dodger Stadium, singer Nezza recently sang the Spanish national anthem as a show of unity with immigrant families.
The women’s soccer team from the National Women’s Soccer League, Angel City FC, has chosen to rename themselves as “Immigrant City Football Club.” They have generated thousands through the sale of merchandise to help fund legal assistance for individuals who are at risk of being deported.
Simultaneously at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., Trump faced boos during a performance of Les Misérables. Protesters, dressed as drag queens, made an appearance after he announced intentions to prohibit all drag performances at the institution, which he now leads as its chairman.
While attending a performance of Les Misérables at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., Trump was met with boos. Drag queens joined the demonstration following his decision to outlaw drag shows within the institution, where he currently serves as chair.
