Marvel Cosmic Invasion is poised to be the latest hit from Dotemu and Tribute Games

Following the fantastic beat-’em-up experience of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge in 2022, I eagerly anticipated the collaboration between Tribute Games and Dotemu on the Marvel IP. During Summer Game Fest Play Days, I had the chance to delve into a few levels of Marvel Cosmic Invasion and was thoroughly captivated by its gameplay mechanics and comic book references.

Marvel’s Cosmic Invasion debuts with 15 selectable characters, but in my demonstration, I had the chance to try out more than half of them. In this game, players choose two heroes for each level, allowing you to switch between them freely. During my playthrough, I opted for Spider-Man and Captain America, both boasting robust melee capabilities and useful projectiles.

Not only can you exchange characters, but you can also bring in your second character for assistance, creating tantalizing combos. Playing as Spider-Man, I enjoyed trapping an enemy, then launching them into the air, watching Captain America swoop down with a powerful kick. Then, I’d summon him again to throw his shield once the enemy was out of reach. Although players are advised to choose duos whose playstyles work well together (like a fighter and a sniper), a developer mentioned that unusual pairings can lead to thrilling and intriguing gameplay scenarios.

Similar to Shredder’s Revenge, Marvel Cosmic Invasion offers drop-in/drop-out cooperative play. This means that players can easily join or leave a session without causing any disruptions. The game is designed to adapt to changing player numbers instantly, adjusting the enemy count accordingly. To win, it’s crucial to coordinate your character choices with your teammates. However, the game does provide the option to have two of the same hero if needed.

Fundamentally, Marvel’s Cosmic Invasion is designed to captivate fans of action games, offering fresh adversaries and leaders to conquer. For Marvel enthusiasts, there are plenty of delightful tributes and obscure references hidden throughout, such as the playable character Phylla-Vell, which is quite remarkable indeed. I have complete confidence in Tribute and Dotemu’s abilities to produce this year’s standout brawler game.

This sneak peek comes from a preliminary demonstration that was showcased live during Summer Game Fest: Play Days. Keep in mind that the completed version may undergo changes.
