In Dune: Awakening, Shai-Hulud, also known as sandworms, pose a significant danger right from the start of the game. With each footstep in the desert, a small vibration is created that can attract these colossal beasts towards your position. However, there are certain strategies you can employ to significantly reduce the chances of becoming their prey.
How to avoid the sandworms in Dune: Awakening
Find the best route
As I tread through the vast expanse of sand in this game, I can’t stress enough the importance of staying vigilant. Sandworms are not something you want on your tail, so it’s best to steer clear of them if possible. To do this, look for paths that take you between solid ground areas. It might seem like a detour, but trust me, it’s better to take the longer route than end up in a sandworm’s lunch. So, keep your eyes peeled and your wits about you!
Don’t move by foot
Start learning to build a sandbike early on. This bicycle will become an invaluable companion when navigating through sandy terrains. Although the bike generates stronger vibrations than walking, its increased speed generally allows you to get from one place to another, provided you stick to routes with as much solid ground as possible for safety reasons.
Additionally, you have the option to attach an accelerator at the back of your sandbike for quick speed bursts. However, be mindful not to push it too far as it might cause your vehicle to overheat. Yet, it can prove useful when a sandworm is chasing you.
In due course, you’ll learn how to build an aircraft similar to a helicopter in the Dune universe, known as an ornithopter. Even though sandworms may rise up to try and devour your creation, you stand a significantly better chance of surviving aloft compared to remaining on the sandy terrain.
Utilize fast travel
In the game Dune: Awakening, you can quickly move between zones by utilizing a fast travel system, but it’s only accessible through trading posts. If you prefer avoiding encounters with sandworms while traveling, locate the nearest trading post to fast-travel to any other previously visited trading post. Just approach the ornithopter pilot stationed in the room’s corner, and they will ask for 700 solari for the flight.
