In essence, InZOI seems to boast all the essential elements to challenge major players in the life simulation genre – an intricate character designer, up-to-date visuals, and an easy-to-use construction system that exudes style and sophistication. However, upon closer inspection, one can’t help but feel that something vital is lacking: realism.
A Beautiful Shell With No Center
One Steam review encapsulates the current state of inZOI brilliantly: “Reading any text in this game is akin to reading an email from HR that was composed by an AI like me.” The impersonal, disconnected vibe permeates the entire gameplay. The game lacks a clear tone it aspires to maintain, and instead adopts a sterile, corporate feel – polished on the exterior, yet surprisingly empty within.
It’s quite disheartening that the fundamental aspects seem incomplete. Regardless of one’s skills, tasks appear shallow. For instance, you can spend endless hours watering the same tomato plant repeatedly to reach the maximum level in gardening. The cooking experience is limited too, with only a single plate prepared at a time followed by washing a solitary dish. Everything feels slow, mechanical, and surprisingly disconnected from any semblance of realism or fluidity.
As a gamer, I can’t help but notice that socializing isn’t as smooth as it should be. There’s hardly any chance for spontaneous get-togethers or leisurely moments. Instead, interactions are usually confined within rigid menus. Romantic encounters often lack depth and emotional significance, and relationships advance at an alarming pace – faster than in The Sims, yet somehow less heartfelt. It all feels like temporary solutions waiting to be upgraded.
Made For Builders, Not Storytellers
To put it simply, it’s worth noting that ZOI does offer some notable advantages. Architects and visual artists should find plenty to appreciate in this platform. The latest update has introduced 175 new construction items, expanded furniture categories, and enhanced camera controls. If your primary interest lies in creating visually appealing designs rather than game mechanics, you’ll find ample opportunities for creativity here.
However, it’s important to note that the game inZOI is specifically designed with The Sims audience in mind. This demographic seeks more than just a visually appealing sandbox; they demand mechanisms that foster storytelling, character interactions, ongoing development, and emotional involvement. Currently, these aspects are not fully present in inZOI, but it’s possible that they will be introduced in the future.
The Latest Update Changes The Equation
On June 13, Krafton unveiled a significant upgrade which could signify a pivotal moment in the game’s history. This update incorporates several enhancements for user experience, novel social interactions, but above all, official modding tools are now available.
The latest inZOI ModKit provides an opportunity for user-generated content within the community. Now, players can design personalized outfits, furniture, and even alter game regulations. A user-friendly interface is available for beginners, plugin compatibility with Blender and Maya, and direct sharing through CurseForge are included features. For a life simulator that’s still defining its essence, having such community infrastructure could potentially revolutionize the game.

The latest updates bring additional options to craft unique narratives – introducing new…

Additionally, there’s development in the gameplay aspect: incorporation of topics such as adoption, non-marital birth, teenage romance, emotional texting, gift-giving, and unexpected visits by Zois. These elements contribute to a more interactive and realistic environment. Players now have greater freedom to customize their characters’ gender identities and romantic preferences, and relationships evolve more dynamically over time. While it’s not a total transformation, it is a significant stride towards the immersive simulation experience that fans have been eagerly anticipating.
Where We Are Now
The game, inZOI, remains in its Early Access phase, which is evident in its development. At the moment, the fundamental aspects of the simulation seem not fully realized, and it appears to be missing the immersive player-driven narratives that are characteristic of life simulators. However, with the recent update, the game seems to be sprouting new life. It’s demonstrating a responsiveness to feedback, broadening its features, and empowering players with greater control.
The game is currently holding a 3.5-star rating on Steam, which seems about right. However, the latest update has sparked some optimism. If Krafton keeps refining these improvements and maintains its focus on modding and expanding gameplay features, inZOI might eventually evolve into the life sim it aspires to be.
