Ryan Reynolds’ ‘I Eat Poop’ Movie Announced, Director Revealed

Ryan Reynolds’ Maximum Effort company is producing an I Eat Poop movie.

In a captivating children’s book titled “I Eat Dung: A Tale of a Tenacious Dung Beetle,” penned by Mark Pett, published in 2021, I find myself immersed in the journey of an unassuming insect who bravely overcomes bullying and learns to embrace his unique dietary habits.

What do we know about Ryan Reynolds’ I Eat Poop movie?

As per the deadline set, the upcoming animated film titled “I Eat Poop” hails from Paramount Animation. At present, no cast members have been confirmed for the movie, leaving the question of whether Ryan Reynolds will lend his voice to a character in the film unanswered.

It’s important to mention that Benj Pasek and Justin Paul are creating a film titled “I Eat Poop” for Ampersand, and they previously collaborated with Maximum Effort on this year’s Spirited, where Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell were the leads. Interestingly, many of Maximum Effort’s productions — including Deadpool 2 (2018), Free Guy (2021), Deadpool & Wolverine (2024), among others — feature Reynolds, suggesting there’s a good possibility he might be involved in the upcoming film.

At present, discussions are ongoing regarding Josh Cooley taking up the director’s role for the upcoming film. Prior to this, Cooley directed Toy Story 4 in 2019 and Transformers One, set for release in 2024. Additionally, he has contributed to various other movies like Ratatouille (2007), Up (2009), Inside Out (2015), Soul (2020), among others.

In the book “I Eat Poop”, we meet Dougie, who harbors a secret: unlike ground beetles, he is actually a dung beetle and takes pleasure in consuming waste matter. Despite understanding that he should feel proud of his unique role in processing waste and other remarkable feats, Dougie fears being ostracized if his classmates discovered his unusual dietary habits. One day, the school lunchroom erupts over a fellow student eating waste, and Dougie is faced with a difficult decision: will he stand up for his friend and reveal his true identity?

A release date for I Eat Poop has not yet been set.
