Swedish home brand Hem collaborates with British-Ghanaian designer Kusheda Mensah on an assortment of organic-styled cushions, known as the “Palma” collection.

Next week, we’re unveiling a new piece that represents the first joint effort between Hem and London artist Mensah, extending from their previous collection titled “Mutual I.

Just like the original collection, each item in the Palma series draws inspiration from organic shapes found in nature, such as the human form. Designer Mensah conceptualized “Mutual I” as a set of interactive sculptures that promote engagement and bonding, an idea she consistently incorporates into her work. This theme is also reflected in her collaboration with Hem.

She enthusiastically shared that she was thrilled to unveil the Palma collection at 3DD; this marks her first appearance at the festival, which represents a significant step in her career as a designer and a Black woman in the industry. Indeed, it feels like her dream board has come true.

Petrus Palmér, Hem Founder and CEO, remarked that Kusheda’s project sparked an immediate affection; the combination of thorough research and a whimsical attitude resulted in a paw-shaped cushion that consistently brings joy.

As a devoted admirer, I’d say that Palma is crafted into three versatile structures for sitting, balancing, and lounging. Designed with communal use in mind, each part of this unique pouf invites cozy seating to foster intimacy and conversation, be it used alone or as part of a larger setup.

As a design enthusiast, I can’t contain my excitement about the three-piece series I recently came across! These stylish pieces are versatile in terms of finishes – you can choose from Kvadrat upholstery, boucle, or leather. This fantastic collection will be showcased at next week’s 3daysofdesign festival in Copenhagen, and The price range starts from €799 (approximately $899 USD), making it an affordable luxury that I can’t wait to bring into my home!
