In a recent chat, Ryan Reynolds playfully suggested that if Wolverine from the X-Men comics and movies were to be reimagined, perhaps he could be a honey badger. This is intriguing as Reynolds serves as both narrator and executive producer for Underdogs, a new National Geographic show focusing on lesser-known animals dwelling at the base of the food chain, bringing attention to their often overlooked lives.
Ryan Reynolds says Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine should go ‘honey badger next time’
During an interview with IGN, Reynolds humorously suggested that Marvel could have chosen a honey badger when designing the character of Wolverine. He explained, “The wolverine belongs to the weasel family, but it’s one of the largest members. However, I believe they could have just as effortlessly selected a honey badger as one of the main X-Men characters instead. Honey badgers are virtually indestructible; they’re incredibly resilient creatures capable of causing significant harm.
As a die-hard fan, I’d love to see my Deadpool & Wolverine co-star, the legendary Hugh Jackman, take on a new role instead of his iconic character. “I may not be the one calling the shots in Marvel’s universe,” I imagine saying, “But it sure would be fun if Hugh could try something different and embrace the wild spirit of a honey badger for a change.
In his telling of Underdogs, Reynolds humorously compares a wolverine on screen to Jackman being referred to as a “dull millionaire” using an old Canadian term for its name. When asked by a certain media outlet if Jackman had commented on that scene in the series, Reynolds didn’t respond.
Back in the groovy ’70s, I was just a comic book character waiting to be brought to life – that’s right, I’m talking about none other than Wolverine! Len Wein and John Romita Sr., the creative power couple of comics, were the ones who breathed life into me. My first appearance, albeit as a cameo, was in The Incredible Hulk #180, but my full debut happened in The Incredible Hulk #181, both in 1974. Fast forward to 2000, and I found myself on the big screen for the first time, thanks to Hugh Jackman’s talented portrayal of me in X-Men.
