adidas Spotlights Black Trailblazers Steering Culture, Style and Change

Nestled beside the Alabama River lies Boykin, a town where an exceptional team of artisans weave generational tales and customs into stunning textile masterpieces, affectionately known as the Gee’s Bend Quiltmakers. These women are the talented creators behind pieces that have made indelible marks in American art history. In February, they were the inaugural recipients of adidas‘ Honoring Black Excellence (HBE) initiative, showcasing their vibrant, geometric designs on a limited-edition NCAA jersey collection for that specific event.

On June 24th, Atlanta will witness a complete celebration with the HBE experience, carefully designed by artistic duo Rog & Bee Walker. This showcase highlights transformative figures, such as the women from Gee’s Bend, who have left lasting impacts on their communities, artistic fields, and beyond.

The Walkers aimed to craft an endeavor that doesn’t merely pay tribute to Black brilliance, but truly embodies it. The narratives we present are not simply recounted; they are experienced, felt, and cherished. We aspire for this to serve as a platform for people to observe, contemplate, and ultimately connect with something profound beyond their individual selves.

From its start in 2019, this program has consistently worked to magnify the ideas of influential Black figures by fostering community ties, charitable efforts, and investments in local organizations. This current year’s event, themed “Pathways & Pipelines,” will also recognize Sekou Thornell, founder of streetwear label Kitboys Club, and Jaycina Almond, creator of Tender, a grassroots organization reshaping perspectives on single parenthood.

In harmony with the occasion, Adidas and Rog & Bee unveil the Hero Film, a captivating, short-form tribute that beautifully encapsulates the journey of each honoree into a radiant mosaic showcasing resilience, creativity, and the promising future.
