Andor’s Andy Serkis on Why Kino Loy Wasn’t in Season 2

Andy Serkis recently discussed the reason behind his character, Kino Loy, not appearing in Andor Season 2. He pondered on the profound emotional depth and conclusive nature of the role during a recent interview. Here’s why Andy Serkis’ Kino Loy didn’t return in Andor Season 2

At the Annecy Animation Festival, Andy Serkis told Collider, “For the character’s sake, I believe it was the most suitable choice. The arc was exceptional, and it culminated in an incredibly heroic ending. frankly, revisiting might be challenging because it left a lasting impact.

In three episodes of Andor Season 1, the character Kino Loy played a crucial role in orchestrating a prison break on Narkina 5. His parting words, “I can’t swim,” left his destiny undecided. Although his fate remains uncertain, actor Andy Serkis highlighted the significance of the character, stating, “I was taken aback by how emotionally impactful that character turned out to be. Consequently, I believe it’s far more compelling for us to leave him stranded on Narkina 5.

In his recent discussion, Serkis admitted that he hasn’t seen Season 2 yet. He mentioned, “I haven’t had the opportunity yet, but I’ve been told it’s amazing.” With a 97% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, Andor’s second season currently holds the highest acclaim among all Star Wars projects so far.

During the interview, Serkis pointed out a surge in audience interaction at conventions. “It seems everyone’s eager to discuss Andor,” he mentioned. He attributed the show’s success to Tony Gilroy and the directors, expressing, “Tony Gilroy and all the directors involved in those episodes created something truly exceptional.

In essence, “Andor” is a pre-story to “Rogue One,” wrapping up just before the 2016 movie’s events. The series follows Cassian Andor as he evolves into a rebel operative. The absence of Kino Loy in Season 2 is due to the show’s choice to keep the storyline tight and avoid unnecessary character reappearances.
