Splatoon 3 Finally Gets An Update With Infamous New Weapon Kits

Following several quiet months and mounting anticipation among enthusiasts, Splatoon 3 has once again grabbed attention.

I can’t wait for this week! Nintendo has dropped a bombshell with their unexpected update, Version 10.0.0, landing on June 12th. This one’s huge! Expect some fresh weapon kits, the comeback of an old favorite map, and a long-awaited revamp of the matchmaking system to make my gaming experience even better!

The surprising announcement was made barely a year since Nintendo announced in September 2024, on their official SplatoonNA Twitter account, that they had no more updates planned, following the end of the Grand Festival.

Yet, here we are – and the scope of the update is staggering.

Making Up For Lost Time

Splatoon 3 has received criticism for its relatively slow rate of new content releases, particularly when contrasted with its predecessor. At the same stage in Splatoon 2’s lifespan, a variety of third sets and numerous weapon variations were already available – whereas Splatoon 3 seems to be lagging behind in terms of unique content offerings.

This update appears to be Nintendo’s effort to catch up and inject new life into the game.

The Splatlands Collection: A Fresh Arsenal

In Version 10.0.0, we’re excitedly introducing the Splatlands Collection – a fresh batch of 30 unique weapon sets!

These kits were developed through partnerships with Barazushi and Emberz, the two gaming brands that debuted alongside Splatoon 3.

It’s not new for Splatoon to have weapons introduced following the conclusion of regular updates. For instance, in Splatoon 2, the Kensa Collection was launched several months after the announced finish of additional content releases.

As these weapons are developed based on previous models, their distinctive blends of secondary options and special abilities are expected to bring fresh dynamics to the gameplay, making it even more thrilling.

Nintendo hasn’t verified each weapon from the set as of now, but the initial release is already active, sparking excitement among fans as they speculate about possible game-altering options.

Here are the weapons and kits we know so far:

  • Splash-o-matic GCK-O (Toxic Mist and Ink Storm)
  • Carbon Roller ANG-L (Fizzy Bombs and Super Chump)
  • Dapple Dualies NOC-T (Splat Bombs and Killer Wail 5.1)
  • Painbrush BRN-Z (Splash Wall and Trizooka)
  • Tri-Slosher ASH-N (Splat Bombs and the Splattercolor Screen)
  • Splatana Wiper RUS-T (Curling Bombs and Trizooka)
  • Splattershot Pro FRZ-N (Splat Bombs and Tenta Missiles)
  • Splat Charger CAM-O (Sprinkler and Crab Tank)
  • Rapid Blaster Pro WNT-R (Suction Bombs and Tacticooler)
  • Jet Squelcher COB-R (Burst Bombs and Triple Splashdown)
  • Mini Splatling RTL-R (Squid Beakon and Trizooka)
  • H-3 Nozzlenose VIP-R (Suction Bombs and Triple Inkstrike)
  • REEF-LUX 450 MIL-K (Torpedo and Booyah Bomb)
  • Tenta Brella CRE-M (Toxic Mist and Super Chump)

The Return Of Urchin Underpass

In another heartwarming decision, the much-adored map from the original Splatoon on Wii U, known as Urchin Underpass, is coming back. Completely redesigned to fit the Splatlands style, it will become a regular feature once the update is released.

With another touch of nostalgia, the cherished map from the original Splatoon on Wii U, called Urchin Underpass, will be back. After being given a fresh makeover to match the Splatlands theme, it will rotate into the regular lineup following the update’s release.

Matchmaking Reborn: Series Weapon Power

One exciting development that many are looking forward to is an enhancement in the matchmaking system. The upcoming modification includes a fresh statistic labeled as Series Weapon Efficiency, which monitors a player’s win-loss record for each weapon. As a result, the matchmaking algorithm will be able to connect players with opponents of equivalent skill level based on the weapon they’re currently using.

This allows players to try out novel or unknown weapon types, ensuring they aren’t unbalanced in competition against significantly more powerful or less capable opponents.

Making strides towards rectifying the concern about uneven skill matching in Splatoon 3’s multiplayer mode, this update is expected to foster a more diverse selection of weapons as players feel more equally matched.

In addition to enhancements, this update also increases the maximum age of all weapons, making them even more effective. Moreover, new achievement emblems within the game will be given to players based on their skills and commitment, providing additional milestones to achieve.

Final Thoughts

Although it’s not yet certain whether this update indicates a resumption of regular content releases or is an unexpected event, there’s a palpable sense of anticipation and curiosity within the community.

However, will the latest update suffice to regain the trust of disgruntled fans? Share your thoughts below!
