Untitled Snoop Dogg biopic lands the actor who will play the legendary rapper

Isn’t it surprising that no movie about Snoop Dogg’s life has been made yet? Given his captivating life story, which started before he became famous with Dr. Dre’s assistance, it seems a film project on this legend is finally in the works.

In addition to his role as an artist, Snoop Dogg (born Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr.) is also involved in the production aspects of the project. He will oversee its creation and help decide on the cast members. Recently, it has been confirmed that Jonathan Daviss will portray Snoop Dogg.

JD Daviss, who is famously recognized as Pope Heyward on Netflix’s “Outer Banks,” might be the one you’re thinking of. This popular series spans across five seasons, with the final installment set to premiere between 2026 and 2027. Additionally, Daviss has made an appearance in the film “Do Revenge” alongside Maya Hawke.

Snoop Dogg biopic finds the actor to play the iconic rapper

As a die-hard fan, I can’t wait to see the upcoming movie that traces the journey of Snoop Dogg from his turbulent teenage years to adulthood. His debut album, “Doggystyle,” shot straight to No. 1 on the Billboard charts and was also a top-10 hit in Canada. Over the years, he’s dropped an impressive total of 21 studio albums, with nine making it into the top 10. To add to his impressive discography, he’s been featured in six top-10 singles as well.

At the 2025 BET Awards, Daviss shared with Billboard about landing the role of the iconic rapper: “For months, I was auditioning for this part. The selection process was tough, as Dogg wanted to test my abilities thoroughly and ensure I was the ideal candidate. I felt relieved, thrilled, and eager to start work.

Titleless Snoop Lion biographical film will be steered by Craig Brewer, a director known for his past works like “Coming 2 America” and “Hustle & Flow”. Universal Pictures is set to handle the distribution of this movie. Notably, Snoop Dogg himself is just one of the producers, with the prestigious Brian Glazer and Death Row Pictures president Sara Ramaker sharing this role.

As an eager admirer, I must share that there’s no set date for the movie’s premiere yet, as we’re still in the process of finalizing the cast. It’s possible that we might see it hit the screens in 2026, but all signs point towards a more likely release in 2027.
