Premalu 2: Is Naslen and Mamitha Baiju starrer’s sequel delayed? Producer responds

In 2024, the movie titled “Premalu” featuring Naslen and Mamitha Baiju as the main characters made a grand debut on the silver screen and became an enormous success. Since a follow-up film was previously announced, it appears that fans will need to exercise some patience before they can enjoy it.

According to a recent conversation with The Cue, the movie’s co-producer and well-known actor-director Dileesh Pothan has shared that the sequel’s production is currently on hold. At this time, the project is not moving forward, and it remains uncertain when they will resume work on it.

Moreover, it was mentioned by the director of Joji that Girish AD, the filmmaker behind Premalu, will shortly commence work on a new venture under their collective production company.

For those not familiar, Premalu is a comedic Malayalam film centered around Sachin, a disheartened graduate from Kerala with no significant accomplishments in life.

With the aspiration of discovering something more promising, Sachin contemplates leaving India, yet he’s unable to secure a visa in the required timeframe. Yearning for change, he relocates within India with his friend and encounters Reenu, a fresh recruit at an IT company based in Hyderabad.

The narrative revolves around the progression of their relationship and if they end up falling in love, featuring intriguing and amusing characters along the way.

In the forefront are Naslen and Mamitha, with Sangeeth Prathap, Akhila Bhargavan, Shyam Mohan, Meenakshi Raveendran, Mathew Thomas, among others, taking significant supporting roles in this movie.

Since the original movie was a huge box office hit and received great reviews, its creators have announced plans for a sequel called “Premalu 2”. However, unlike the first film, this follow-up appears to need a bit more time for production.

At Naslen’s professional set, the actor recently appeared in the movie “Alappuzha Gymkhana,” directed by Khalid Rahman. This sports-themed production will be available for streaming starting June 13, 2025, on SonyLIV.

In the future, the promising actor will feature in the film “Lokah – Chapter One: Chandra,” sharing the screen with Kalyani Priyadarshan. This upcoming cinematic project from Malayalam is financed by Dulquer Salmaan, who is said to make a brief appearance alongside Tovino Thomas.

Meanwhile, Mamitha Baiju is actively participating in several movies such as Thalapathy Vijay’s Jana Nayagan, a project with Pradeep Ranganathan titled Dude, and Suriya 46.
