The development of a new Wonder Woman movie within the DC Universe has been confirmed, as revealed by James Gunn who shared some initial insights into the reimagined version of the character in the burgeoning DC Universe.
What did James Gunn say about the DCU Wonder Woman movie?
To Entertainment Weekly, Gunn revealed that work is underway on a Wonder Woman film, distinct from the ongoing development of the Paradise Lost HBO series. Gunn refrained from providing details regarding the movie, only mentioning it’s currently in the writing phase.
“We’re working on Wonder Woman. Wonder Woman’s being written right now,” said Gunn.
Before the latest release of Wonder Woman, Gal Gadot had already portrayed the character in the DC Extended Universe films directed by Zack Snyder. Patty Jenkins helmed two movies featuring Gadot as Wonder Woman. There were rumors of a third film, but it never materialized following the appointment of James Gunn and Peter Safran as co-CEOs at DC Studios.
At this point, it’s uncertain if the upcoming Wonder Woman movie in the DC Universe will include any characters from the existing roster of heroes. The Man of Steel film, starring David Corenswet, is slated for release on July 11, 2025. Following this, a Supergirl film titled “Woman of Tomorrow” featuring Milly Alcock is scheduled for June 2026.
At the start of his tenure with DC Studios, Gunn mentioned a Batman film too; however, as of now, there haven’t been any specific updates regarding this project.
