Tony Gilroy, the mind behind Andor, recognized that establishing a romantic connection between Cassian and Bix Caleen could potentially stir dissatisfaction among fans who were fond of Jyn Erso from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
What did Tony Gilroy say about Cassian Andor’s relationship?
In Rogue One, Cassian and Jyn didn’t express their feelings towards one another, but there was a heartfelt moment between them in an elevator on their way to Scarif’s shores. Tragically, they ended up dying together not long after.
When Tony Gilroy crafted Cassian’s character into a romantic relationship with Bix, he was well aware of the potential backlash from Jyn Erso fans. Even to this day, Gilroy still understands and shares their feelings.
As a gamer, I can empathize with those who’ve poured countless hours into the fan-created content for this universe we all love. Those who truly immersed themselves in it, they put their heart and soul into it. It might not be officially recognized within the franchise’s canon, and legally, I don’t have to acknowledge it, but that doesn’t diminish the effort and emotion invested by these fans. I wouldn’t want to tread on someone’s creative sanctuary unintentionally. However, I must follow my path. I know there will be some who may never get over this change. I offer my sincere apologies. Truly, I do.
In terms of Rogue One, I’ve got to say that the interaction between Cassian and Jyn in that movie was something I appreciated, especially the intense elevator scene. Revisiting the film, it gave me a sense of satisfaction seeing how it all played out. Yet, as I delved deeper into the story, my curiosity about Cassian’s past with Bix took over, and I found myself becoming more engrossed in that aspect rather than focusing on what happened between Cassian and Jyn.
Gilroy remarks that Cassian and Bix share a sexually open relationship of sorts. It seems their initial kiss and possibly their first sexual encounter were with each other. Considering their age on Ferrix is unclear, but they likely started their relationship at a very young age. Throughout the years, there have been times when they’ve been together and apart.
As a fervent admirer, I’d like to express my agreement with Gilroy – they seem to possess a well-balanced understanding of the varying intensities of love.
Andor Seasons 1 and 2 are now streaming on Disney+.
