Resident Evil Requiem announced at Summer Games Fest

At the Summer Games Fest 2025, Capcom unveiled Resident Evil Requiem as the latest addition to their 30-year-old horror series during their appearance at the event. Earlier in the show, they had playfully hinted at something new, but it wasn’t until this official reveal that we learned more about the upcoming title.

During the conclusion of the digital game event, Capcom unveiled the newest installment in their renowned series, following announcements of titles like Atomic Heart 2 and Mortal Shell 2. Earlier hints from the studio this year have now culminated in our first glimpse at the upcoming addition to this legendary franchise.

Resident Evil Requiem is Resident Evil 9

Step into the shoes of Grace, the new protagonist, as you embark on an entirely fresh experience in Capcom’s horror franchise with Resident Evil Requiem. This groundbreaking game, launching on February 27, 2028, marks a significant departure from what players are accustomed to, offering a daring change in both tone and gameplay style. With its high-stakes cinematic action, it promises an exhilarating journey.

At this point in time, there’s not a lot of information available about the upcoming horror game within the well-established series. Yet, considering it’s the ninth primary installment in the ongoing franchise, it is expected to unfold subsequent to the extraordinary events portrayed in Resident Evil Village.

In the upcoming game, players will take charge of a new character named Claire as they revisit Raccoon City, now devastated by the nuclear explosion at the end of the second installment. As strange deaths occur and bizarre symptoms afflict the mysterious victims, it seems that the corporation Umbrella may once again be involved in questionable activities.

Information on the upcoming horror game, which has been in the works for several years, is scarce. However, it’s being touted as a high-energy installment in the Resident Evil series, marking three decades of Resi titles. Let’s hope it doesn’t live up to the action intensity of RE6.

As an ardent fan, I haven’t come across any official updates about our beloved characters from the Resident Evil universe making a comeback. However, whispers in the gaming community suggest that Leon S. Kennedy, the hero from RE2 and RE4, might just be part of the upcoming game. The details are still hazy, but it’s rumored that his role could be similar to Chris Redfield’s brief appearance at the end of Resi 7 – a cameo rather than a full-fledged return.
