Konami’s terrifying Silent Hill F is “more action-oriented” than Silent Hill 2, devs confirm

Last night during Sony’s PlayStation State of Play event, Konami officially announced the release date for Silent Hill F. Alongside unveilings of Pragmata, Nioh 3, and other titles, the upcoming horror game appears visually stunning.

Following the meticulously crafted Silent Hill 2 Remake by Bloober Team, the upcoming adventure deviates from the norm with a fresh Japanese backdrop and a young female lead. However, unlike previous installments, this game promises a more action-packed experience than fans might anticipate.

Silent Hill F veers towards action-horror

After the unveiling of the game’s release date, as reported by VGC, producer Motoi Okamoto detailed that the upcoming installment in Konami’s renowned horror series will offer players an authentic portrayal of 1960s Japan in stunning 4K quality.

In contrast to the slow, suspenseful atmosphere of past installments, Silent Hill F places greater emphasis on physical confrontations. Compared to Silent Hill 2 from last year, this game’s combat is expected to be more action-packed and melee-oriented.

Indeed, the traditional puzzles from the series make a comeback in this latest edition, and they are deeply rooted in emotional torment and distress.

According to Okamoto, these elements are intrinsically linked to the story written by Ryukishi07 and also incorporate aspects of Japanese culture, notably scarecrows.

The game’s monster design, crafted by artist kera, combines Japanese horror elements with the chilling uniqueness of Silent Hill’s prior creatures, resulting in a stunning yet horrifying aesthetic. Meanwhile, composers Akira Yamaoka and Kensuke Inage create a soundtrack that echoes the past but perfectly complements this new environment, as the producer explained.

As a dedicated fan, I must say that the latest installment in the Silent Hill series, Silent Hill F, offers a unique and distinct gaming experience unlike any other. Rather than the familiar small-town America setting, this game takes us on an entirely new journey. Yet, it retains the essence of its predecessors like Silent Hill 2 and Silent Hill 3 by delving deep into psychological horror. Themes of suicidal thoughts and other profound subjects are at the heart of this game, making it a thought-provoking and immersive experience for players.
