American Comic Trailer: Patton Oswalt & Doug Benson Star in Mockumentary | Exclusive

As a game enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that I’ll be among the first to witness the exclusive trailer for an American Comic mockumentary, created by none other than stand-up comedian Joe Kwaczala! This hilarious journey will make its grand entrance at the Dances With Films LA 2025 festival on June 29. Can’t wait to be part of this world premiere!

The movie is a realistic mockumentary imitating a documentary, focusing on two aspiring stand-up comedians. Despite their apparent cultural disparities, they exhibit striking commonalities in arrogance, self-destructive tendencies, and social awkwardness. As the film humorously exposes the peculiar world of stand-up comedy, selfish rivalry escalates, culminating in some startling and unforeseen disclosures.

What happens in the American Comic trailer?

In this video, I’m the one stepping into Kwaczala’s shoes, juggling two hilarious stand-up comedian characters in a mockumentary setting. Alongside me, you’ll see Hayley McFarland, Sam Wiles, John Eisenrich, Biniam Bizuneh, Doug Benson, Jon Gabrus, and the brilliant Patton Oswalt making their appearances too!

American Comic – An Unscripted Movie Experience

Produced and directed by Daniel J. Clark, this film is based on a screenplay penned by Kwaczala. Unlike traditional films, it was shot in actual comedy clubs with unsuspecting live audiences who didn’t know that Kwaczala was in character. The genuine reactions from every performance make the movie even more engaging. With a runtime of 86 minutes, this film offers an authentic and unforgettable experience.

In his statement, Clark shared that neither him nor Joe waited for permission to produce this film; instead, they combined their funds, utilized connections with actors, comedians, venues, and so forth, and began the project armed with a script and a camera. They filmed in various locations across the nation at genuine comedy shows before unsuspecting crowds. This method was chosen since stand-up comedy can seem contrived when presented on television or in films. To capture authentic reactions, they had Joe appear unexpectedly on stage during regular comedy shows without warning anyone he was performing in character, and then recorded the performances. Remarkably, this approach turned out to be more effective than anticipated.

He went on to say, “I’m incredibly proud of American Comic. I can’t wait to see how its content, characters, and humor connect with viewers, whether they’re experienced comedy enthusiasts who find it remarkably relatable or casual observers eager to catch a glimpse into this peculiar subculture.
