Dead By Daylight dev tells fans to “stop yelling” at each other as arachnophobia discourse gets out of control

2025 sees a busy schedule for Dead by Daylight, with new chapters planned. On June 17th, Five Nights at Freddy’s is expected to fully launch on all platforms. Two licensed survivors from The Walking Dead are set for release in July. Following this, an original killer inspired by Asian folklore will be introduced in September. While some fans have speculated that the new killer might be a Spider Lady, recent statements from a Dead by Daylight developer suggest that these theories should be put to rest, with a request for fans to avoid heated discussions related to arachnophobia and accessibility concerns.

Dead By Daylight devs response to Spider-Lady killer theory

After the introduction of FNAF PTB, a theory emerged that the Asian folklore character arriving in September, possibly the Jorōgumo, could be the killer. This is due to one of the abandoned arcade machines within the Five Nights At Freddy’s map bearing the name Jorōgumo and apparently representing a figure resembling Spider-Woman.

Despite some fans’ theories suggesting the addition of a Spider-Lady killer character, Behaviour Interactive has apparently refuted these claims. In response to a tweet summarizing the theory, the official Dead By Daylight account stated, “Though we enjoy the speculative conversations, the only spindly limbs we are currently planning to have in the fog belong to The Entity!

In response to a user who posted about potential rumors concerning the September chapter being Jurōgomo and expressing hopes for an arachnophobia accessibility option, BeHaviour acknowledged that this has sparked valuable discussions regarding accessibility in Dead by Daylight. They expressed gratitude for the user’s thoughts and concerns, emphasizing their dedication to ensuring everyone can enjoy the game more comfortably.

The proposal of an accessibility feature for arachnophobia sparked a great deal of debate among users. Some argued that this option would be beneficial for those who truly need it, while others criticized the idea because it’s a horror game and there are numerous other potential triggers that already exist within the game.

In light of the intense conversation, the community manager, Eric Pope, wrote, “could everyone please stop shouting at people for feeling scared of spiders”. Some upset fans misunderstood this as BeHaviour condoning the act of not killing spiders. To clarify, Pope said, “Note the word ‘currently’, it just means that right now we aren’t developing a spider repellent/killer, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that will always be the case”.

please stop yelling at people for being afraid of spiders

As a fellow enthusiast, I must admit my disappointment in not receiving a spider-slaying tool for September. However, there’s still a glimmer of hope – we might be getting a character reminiscent of Laura from The Evil Within, going by the name Spider-Woman. But let me clarify, this character won’t be some hybrid creature with a woman’s upper body and a spider’s lower half, as that seems to be a bit too fantastical for now.
