Boy Moms, Almond Moms, Crunchy Moms – The TikTok Phenomena Explained

TikTok has created new mom vibes – and suddenly, everyone fits into a box.

Ranging from crisp to smooth, from a simple almond meal in the morning to whatever’s easily available – these are the five types of modern mothers currently trending in conversations.

Find out which one you are – or which one you definitely don’t want to be.

Almond Mom

“Just eat a few almonds.”

This mom believes that “hunger is just in your head.”

As a passionate gamer, I’d rephrase that in my own words like this: “Remember that advice from Yolanda Hadid on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills? She told her daughter Gigi to take things slow, just like how I approach a challenging game level – one step, or in this case, one almond at a time.

Currently, the Almond Mom on TikTok embodies moms who champion unhealthy dietary practices, obsess over calorie counting, and inadvertently spread harmful body standards. These individuals have unfortunately come to symbolize a generation grappling with a troubled connection to food.

Crunchy Mom

“I make my own baby oil.”

Pure nature! The Crunchy Mom loves everything organic, sustainable, and low-tech.

She strongly advocates for the use of cloth diapers, homeopathic treatments, extended breastfeeding up until preschool years, and playgrounds that are phone-free.

She strives to execute every action correctly, maintaining a genuine and natural approach whenever she can. However, some perceive her style as exclusive or extravagant – yet she continues to be admired by many for being an influential advocate of ecological practices, whose sincerity is evident.

Silky Mom

“I take whatever works.”

Silky Moms represent a stark contrast to Crunchy Moms; their preference lies more towards technology, streamlined processes, and ease-of-use.

Is bottled baby food okay with you? Absolutely! And if using an iPad for sleep is helpful, by all means! They are sensible folks who lean towards scientific evidence and traditional medical practices.

Their motto: As long as it works – whether with pacifiers, bottles, or YouTube kids’ songs.

Scrunchy Mom

“Sometimes this way, sometimes that – depends.”

1. Do you combine bottle-feeding with breastfeeding, yet prefer eco-friendly goods while shopping on Amazon? Then, it seems you fit the description of a Scrunchy!

2. Are you one who both breastfeeds and uses bottles at times, but also appreciate eco-conscious products while making purchases from Amazon? If so, then you’re just like Scrunchy!

3. You’re a mix of both worlds – you nourish your baby with both breastmilk and bottles, yet prioritize eco-friendly items in your online shopping cart on Amazon. That makes you a perfect Scrunchy!

4. It sounds like you’ve got the best of both worlds – you breastfeed but also use bottles for convenience. And when it comes to making purchases, you opt for eco-friendly options on Amazon. Sounds like you’re the definition of a Scrunchy!

Scrunchy Moms are the mix. They take whatever fits their daily life – without guilt.

No extremes, just a relaxed “Why not both?”

Boy Mom

“My son is my best friend.”

Mothers of boys hold a deep affection for them, sometimes even excessively so. Social media platforms like TikTok abound with such mothers, who identify as #boymoms and joyfully post about the rowdy, boisterous, and extraordinary nature of their sons.

Is there some criticism? Yes, indeed. Some perceive it as an adherence to conventional gender norms, and in some cases, a slight disregard for daughters. However, for others, it is simply a heartfelt observation highlighting the special bond between mother and son.

So, What About You? Team Almonds Or Team Screen Time?

No matter if you make homemade fermented beverages or opt for takeout, TikTok’s mom-type users demonstrate something quite clearly: There isn’t one specific way to be a mother. Some lean towards organic living, while others focus on baby food; some follow parenting manuals, while others rely on instinct. Each person carves out their unique path in motherhood.

So: Which mom type are you – or who would you definitely NOT want to be?
