Counting down the days until June 5, 2025, when I’ll finally get to witness the epic masterpiece, “Thug Life,” starring none other than the legendary Kamal Haasan! The anticipation is palpable as this cinematic marvel edges closer to gracing our screens. Yet, a cloud of uncertainty looms over it, as the release faces a potential ban in Karnataka. But fear not, my fellow fans, for our beloved Kamal Haasan has taken the matter into his own hands and is challenging this decision in the High Court! Here’s hoping for justice, and for the chance to experience this film that promises to be nothing short of magical. #TeamThugLife 💥🚀🌟
According to recent news, the established actor’s production company, Raaj Kamal Films International (RKFI), has submitted a court petition asking the Karnataka state government, police department, and film trade organizations not to interfere with the release of the upcoming movie. The petition also includes a request for the Director General of Police and the City Police Commissioner to ensure adequate security during screenings.
Following the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce’s (KFCC) decision to prohibit the release of “Thug Life” due to objections raised by pro-Kannada factions, Kamal Haasan has submitted a petition in response.
The film industry has stated that veteran actor Haasan must issue an apology for his comment by May 30, 2025. However, Haasan has refused this demand and emphasized that he would only apologize if he had made a mistake. Despite not feeling that this is the situation at present, he stands firm on this stance.
Following the actor’s remarks during the Thug Life audio launch that ‘Kannada originated from Tamil,’ there was a surge in protests and threats of a ban against his films and him personally. This statement was met with disapproval by many Kannada speakers.
Discussing the movie, Thug Life is an action-packed thriller that centers around Rangaraya Sakthivel Naicker, a character reminiscent of the Yakuza, a Japanese organized crime group. Believed to be deceased, this gangster resurfaces and harbors suspicion towards his adoptive son, Amaran, as the possible orchestrator behind his attempted assassination. The narrative unfolds into a deadly confrontation between father and son, with only one prevailing in the end.
In addition to Haasan and Silambarasan TR, the film features a diverse ensemble cast that includes Trisha Krishnan, Abhirami, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Ashok Selvan, Joju George, Nassar, Ali Fazal, Pankaj Tripathi, Rohit Saraf, and several others in significant roles.
Notably, the movie, helmed by Mani Ratnam, brings together the director and the seasoned actor following a gap of almost four decades.
