As an ardent admirer, I must say that Elden Ring Nightreign initially appears to be a faithful successor of the original Elden Ring. However, upon closer inspection, it offers some unique twists. The confined world with its contracting boundary, the numerous roguelike aspects, the enigmatic nature of the adversaries you’ll face, and much more set it apart. But what truly stands out is the selection of pre-made characters.
In the previous version of this game, I had the freedom to create my own character from scratch. But in Nightreign, they’ve switched things up by providing a set of predefined characters with distinct focuses instead. One of these characters is Ironeye, and what sets him apart for me is that he allows for manual aiming of a bow in a way that feels intuitive within a third-person game perspective – making the archery experience incredibly immersive!
Overview Of Ironeye
Ironeye is primarily focused on taking aim from a distance and picking off enemies. Although Ironeye may not deal the same amount of damage as melee or magical combatants, it has an advantage by relying solely on stamina, which you’ll always have in abundance. Moreover, unlike melee fighters, you won’t be exposed to getting hit, making it a beneficial choice even with lower damage output.
Since Ironeye has a lower health pool and it’s crucial to avoid getting hit as much as possible, it’d be wise to acquire a melee backup weapon for self-defense against enemies closing in, given that Nightreign didn’t introduce any new bows, limiting the available variety.
Utilizing Ironeye strategically requires a keen sense of your environment. This includes taking positions on higher ground to dodge enemy attacks and constantly moving to discover new advantageous locations. Mastering Ironeye is straightforward, but understanding where to position yourself to stay out of reach of enemies can prove challenging.
Ironeye’s Traits
Just like every Nightfarer character within the game, Ironeye possesses three distinctive qualities: a passive ability, a special skill, and a powerful ultimate move. Given that Ironeye excels in pinpoint accuracy, these characteristics are tailored to this trait.
Passive Ability
Ironeye’s skill, affectionately named “Eagle Eye“, serves to enhance the loot you discover. This means that enemies are statistically more likely to drop a greater number and rarer items. What’s even more advantageous is that this benefit extends to your entire party, not just yourself, making it a valuable asset to have Ironeye in your team.
Character Skill
As an ardent admirer, I’d like to share a unique aspect about Ironeye’s Character Skill: Marking. With this skill, I charge straight towards my targeted foe, slicing them with a knife that leaves a distinct, blood-red imprint. The damage from the initial strike may be minimal, but it’s the mark that truly captivates. Hitting this mark amplifies the damage, and once sufficient damage is inflicted on the vulnerable spot, it instantly knocks the enemy off balance.
This symbol persists as you continuously strike it, and your teammates can observe and attack it too. Interestingly, this ability can also serve as an excellent evasion technique if needed.
Ultimate Art
In simpler terms, Ironeye’s Ultimate Art, titled “Single Shot,” is a powerful technique where you draw a large bowstring back and release a single, incredibly potent arrow. This arrow can fell most opponents and even stun those it doesn’t manage to defeat. The unique aspect of this shot is its ability to bypass any resistance from enemies during the attack, and it can penetrate through any type of terrain. If you successfully target an enemy, you will hit them without fail.
The range of impact for a Single Shot is quite expansive, allowing it to hit multiple foes as well as fallen comrades. Given this, it’s incredibly efficient at eliminating adversaries and resuscitating your team. Additionally, you can retain the ability indefinitely, discharging a Single Shot once all enemies have positioned themselves properly.
Best Weapons To Use With Ironeye

As a gamer, I find myself gravitating towards Ironeye more often due to their exceptional prowess with weapons, mainly thanks to their impressive Dexterity. However, this strength comes at a price – greatbows become less effective because they rely heavily on Strength, and for Ironeye, who has limited HP, being locked in place isn’t an advantage. Yet, it doesn’t mean that melee Dexterity weapons like thrusting swords and daggers are completely useless in my inventory with Ironeye. In fact, they still prove to be quite useful.
Noteworthy in this context is the B scaling of Ironeye’s abilities in Arcane. This enhancement significantly boosts Incantations related to blood, making them highly effective. Furthermore, weapons that accumulate status afflictions, like katanas, can unexpectedly prove useful for Ironeye as a secondary option. However, keep in mind that his FP (Focus Points) reserves are still relatively small, so using weapon skills or spells is not recommended.
