Marvel head honcho, Kevin Feige, outlines the unique features of the impending film titled “The Fantastic Four: Initial Leaps“, setting it apart from previous adaptations.
Although they were Marvel’s initial family on the big screen, past efforts to adapt The Fantastic Four comic book characters haven’t been particularly successful. Movies like Tim Story’s Fantastic Four (2005) and its sequel Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007) made substantial box office revenue, but they received a mix of positive and negative feedback from both critics and viewers.
As a passionate fan, I couldn’t help but feel let down when the 2015 reboot of the Fantastic Four, titled FANT4STIC, failed miserably at the box office and was criticized as the worst Fantastic Four movie to date. It earned a dismal 9% rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. However, when Disney acquired Fox in 2019, giving Marvel the rights to the Fantastic Four franchise, I was thrilled to learn that Kevin Feige aimed to give Mister Fantastic, Invisible Woman, Human Torch, and The Thing the justice they truly deserve by crafting a new and improved Fantastic Four movie.
What did Kevin Feige say about The Fantastic Four: First Steps?
During a conversation with Empire, the head of Marvel emphasized the significance of portraying the tale of The Fantastic Four accurately. “To me, there aren’t four characters more crucial to Marvel’s historical narrative.
He went on to say, “The acquisition of Fox by Disney was more than I could have ever hoped for – an unforeseen dream realized. It couldn’t have come at a better moment, providing us with the platform to embark on a new phase. For me, they are Marvel’s original dynasty, and my aim has always been to do them proud.”

He added, “Disney buying Fox felt like an unexpected dream coming true. It was perfect timing for our leap into a new era. They represent Marvel’s founding family, and I wanted to give them the justice they deserve.
Feige indicates that earlier films veered towards avoiding the “humorous” or “silly” tone due to some apprehension. However, in today’s dynamic film industry, incorporating the quirkier aspects from the original comics is now less of an issue, as understood by his statement.
Feige also mentioned, “At another time, some people may have found the idea of someone strolling through a city wearing a large, boxy helmet silly. To me, it’s incredible.

In the movie “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” helmed by Matt Shakman, Pedro Pascal takes on the role of Reed Richards, also known as Mr. Fantastic, while Vanessa Kirby portrays Sue Storm, aka The Invisible Woman. Joseph Quinn steps into the character Johnny Storm, better known as Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach plays Ben Grimm, who transforms into The Thing. Additionally, Julia Garner is cast as the Silver Surfer, and Ralph Ineson portrays Galactus in this production.
On July 25, 2025, the movie “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” debuts in cinemas, marking its start as a feature in Phase 6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
