Embark on a Sidequest with the next Magic: The Gathering – Final Fantasy card reveal

Magic: Gathering’s Universe Beyond collection has sparked enthusiasm with its upcoming crossover with Final Fantasy, bringing an entirely fresh collaboration into the mix. The forthcoming cards will draw inspiration from Square Enix’s extensive RPG narrative and be compatible with both the traditional card game and MTG Arena’s digital platform. As part of this set, Shacknews is participating in the card reveal event, and here are some of our reveals!

In keeping with the spirit of the Final Fantasy series, this upcoming MTG set is delving into some side adventures. So, take a look at “Sidequest: Card Collection” (73 A), an Enchantment card that transforms into a 4/4 Artifact card named “Magicked Card” (73 B) once certain conditions are met. To provide some insights on these cards, let’s consult Magic expert Greg Burke, who explains them as follows:

As a Magic: The Gathering enthusiast, I’ve come across an intriguing 4-cost enchantment. When played, it lets me draw three cards, then discard two. If, at the start of my end step, there are over eight cards in my graveyard, this enchantment transforms into a 4/4 flying creature with Crew 1. This means it can temporarily become an Artifact creature until the end of turn. Though it’s not the most powerful card in the set and its high cost might be a drawback, it could prove useful in limited play.

Fans of Magic: The Gathering were given an early glimpse at the upcoming crossover with Final Fantasy during MagicCon 2024 earlier this year. There’s plenty more in store for this year, but the Final Fantasy cards are set to arrive very soon. Keep your eyes peeled as the booster sets are scheduled to launch on Friday, June 13.
