Lilo & Stitch’s 2nd Weekend to Beat Karate Kid: Legends’ Box Office Opening

This weekend sees the ongoing success of “Lilo & Stitch” and the debut of “Karate Kid: Legends”. Predictions for box office performance are drawing attention. While “Lilo & Stitch” maintains its lead, “Karate Kid” is expected to make a modest entrance as “Mission: Impossible” remains a strong competitor.

Karate Kid: Legends’ box office to have second best franchise opening

According to Deadline, it’s anticipated that Sony’s film “The Karate Kid: Legends” could earn between $25 and $30 million during its opening weekend in approximately 3,600 cinemas within the U.S.

The movie titled “Karate Kid: Legends”, costing approximately $45 million to make, pays tribute to its original series. It stars Jackie Chan, Ralph Macchio, and Ben Wang. However, the anticipated earnings at the box office for this film are significantly lower than the $55.7 million opening of the 2010 reboot starring Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith. That movie remains the highest-grossing in the franchise, earning a whopping $176.6 million domestically and an impressive $359 million globally.

In a bustling summer film market following a monumental Memorial Day weekend grossing $330 million, Karate Kid: Legends makes its debut. As the review embargo is now lifted, Rotten Tomatoes has yet to post any ratings as of the publishing date.

Although strong fan interest from Cobra Kai viewers and recurring characters could contribute, it’s unlikely that the film will claim the number one spot. Paramount Pictures anticipates Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning to generate $32 million in its second weekend, outperforming Karate Kid: Legends even with a 50% decrease.

Lilo & Stitch to continue sitting on box office throne

Disney’s Lilo & Stitch is reportedly projected to earn $60 million in its second weekend.

Over the past few days, I’ve noticed a significant dip in the box office performance of the movie we all love. From its impressive $182.6 million debut on Memorial Day, it’s dropped by about 59%. This drop is similar to what we saw with Disney classics like Aladdin (-53%) and The Little Mermaid (-57%). As of May 27th, the film has raked in a total of $197.8 million domestically, with an additional $15.2 million added to that total on Tuesday alone.

The 2002 animated film remake in live-action format is still raking in success worldwide, with a global earnings total of $392.6 million as reported by Box Office Mojo. As it enters its second weekend, Lilo & Stitch continues to lead the box office chart. A large number of families flocking to see it and its availability in 4,410 cinemas have kept its popularity going strong.
